I give up -- why are some of these links not working? Also, many thanks to the anonymous contributor who has been adding information, but are you certain that everything meets Wikipedia standards of adhering to a NPOV? For example, the statement about Gothic rock in LA seems either incorrect, vague or misleading. Virtually all of the earliest Gothic rock bands that are known today were English. No LA bands are mentioned at Gothic rock, and I was unaware of any major contributions to the developing genre from LA -- this is not to say that a Gothic rock scene in the early 80s is not worth mentioning, but the current wording implies that LA and England were roughly equal in importance. I have corrected the statement about the early 80s proto-Goth scene in Los Angeles. The bands are mentioned in the "Death rock" article, and I have made a correction. Generally in the early 80s "Goth" referred to the UK scene and "death rock" the California scene. The two scenes would merge in time.

BTW - I was there.

Quick question: All these years, I thought that the Middle Class were from Lakewood? Anyone know for sure? BTW - I was there too. Two Halves, who will continue to tweak this article at another time

The Middle Class were definitely from Santa Ana, not Lakewood. On a completely different note, there is nothing about jazz in this article - Los Angeles and San Francisco are both very important in the history of jazz. While no one would claim they were as crucial to the development of jazz as New Orleans, Chicago, or New York, a good portion of jazz players came from both cities and the jazz scene in both cities was quite important, especially in the mid-20th century.

Journey

"The Tubes, who mixed progressive rock with wild theatricality, was virtually the only act from San Francisco which would gain any sort of fame in the mid-1970s."

While one can certainly make POV criticisms of Journey as to whether they were of any importance, I'd suggest that their disinclusion in this sentence is sort of preposterous insofar as they were one of the most popular AOR acts of the late 70s and early 80s, and were by any measure more "famous" than the Tubes. I'd edit myself, but I'm not quite sure how I'd approach the inclusion. JFMorse 18:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

The Go-Go's

Jazz

I see no mention of jazz in this article. Certainly a state which produced Dave Brubeck and Vince Guaraldi among others, and which hosts numerous about.com/od/topcalifornia/tp/jazz-festivals.htm jazz festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival, one of the longest running jazz festivals in the world, ought to find something to say about the genre.
