Supposed Licensing for anime[edit]

According to the Animesuki license database is appears Funimation has plans to license the series. It's possible this may change later, but I put this in after watching the Anisuki list for several days to make sure. Katsuhagi 22:29, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Episode summaries[edit]

I can handle writing the episode summaries for the new episodes as they come out and I watch them, but I'd rather not have to go back and rewatch all of the episodes again to write the summaries for 1-6. Would it be a good idea to make one page for each episode, with a more detailed summary on each of them, signification of the episode (maybe it would not be considered neutral; but in a trivia, I think it would be okay) and general informations, with an image? I would be happy to make these pages, so I'm wondering if anyone doesn't want them! (but I won't be able to start within the month...) I can also put informations on characters and on Mushi. (Mushishi is my favourite anime, I've fansubed them in french, and I think there is not enough information on Wikipedia for an anime this great!) We have a page now at List of Mushishi episodes that hadn't been created at the time of this thread. I think that page can contain all of the useful information, so I don't see a need for articles for individual episodes. My personal opinion is that fleshing out the plot summaries to four or five lines apiece, without commentary, would greatly improve that article. If you'd like input, let me know. Keep in mind there used to be much more detailed episode summaries back when the 'List of' page was first created, so you may wish to dredge them out of the page history to use as a base. Always easier to edit existing summaries than create new ones... --Gwern (contribs) 16:34 11 May 2007 (GMT)

Encyclopedia value of episode summaries[edit]

Despite the fact that Mushishi is very episodic, I would argue that a summary of every episode isn't very encyclopedic. What are some other people's thoughts on this matter? Are episode summaries good and legitimate information for Wikipedia? --Zaorish 06:17, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Relation between manga and anime[edit]

I added the correlation for episodes 8-14 and added the episode title for 14 (Haru to Usobuku). Hope you don't mind - I was just floating along and saw it incomplete and felt the urge to write it in. Please feel free to reinterpret the title in English if you'd like. I got the correlation from my own copies of the manga - I have volumes 1 to 6. Date/Time[edit]

Is there any hard info in the anime or manga on when the stories are set? Anime episode 2 shows a hypodermic syringe, which would mean a date after 1853, and Ginko's clothes look European. Besides, there's his hair and eye colour.

Other than that, it seems to be before any modernisation of rural Japan.

FUNimation has Mushishi?[edit]

ANN just reported that FUNimation is sending C&D's to a number of shows; some, like xxxHOLiC, are known FUNi properties, but Mushishi was also on that list. I think this is strong credence for indicating it has been licensed. --68.189.82.81 07:05, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation of the word "mushi"[edit]

I've always had a problem with how the word "mushi" was simply translated as "bug" or "insect", because it seems like it means more than that. I found the following page that confirmed this for me and expanded on the meaning of mushi: http://www.iwanihana.info/2007/02/the_meaning_of_.html

I don't think that it should be a standalone page, because it would be a dictionary definition, an example of what Wikipedia is not. However, you're right that translating the "3 mushi" kanji as just "bug or "insect" is misleading. If there's a way to incorporate reliable information about it into the article, it should be done. Guest Cast List[edit]

Might I suggest the Guest Cast list and episode list be combined? Like make one list with the Episode name/manga relationship and the guest cast for that episode. -SeaFox (talk) 00:43, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Given the nature of the anime focusing really on one character it might be good idea to put that in in List of Mushishi episodes. I know it's completely non-standard, but the format of the anime is also non-standard and i think this good reason to ignore the rules on general guidelines for episode lists. Still, I'd say only the notable characters the anime focuses on for each episode should be listed, which is 1-2.じんない 20:24, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that the Guest Cast should be in List of Mushishi episodes as it is per-episode information; and not information about Mushishi as a whole.

Dub Easter Egg - where to note it?[edit]

Ok, here's my dilemma. At AnimeExpo 2008 I had a friendly chat with Mike McFarland, actor for Funimation and voice of Koro in Episode 7, where he revealed an easter egg on the second DVD of the Funimation dub. Apparently Mike's father had passed away recently and he dedicated that episode to him. I'll have to recheck the exact context when I get home but if you go to the scene selection menu, choose episode 7 and then use the remote arrows to click to the right you will find a hidden icon that, when clicked, shows the dedication. I'd have to do some looking into it; but I'd think a 'trivia' section at the end of the page would be the right place for that. Assuming it's real of course. You will also have to find a viable reference for its existence; the 'fact' that it exists isn't enough unless that 'fact' comes from a trusted source.

That's a problem. I got it straight from Mike himself so I have no written source on this. I didn't even know about it until he told me. I might be able to contact him on Myspace and get an official comment from him that can be quoted.

The matter is neither about technology nor foreign exchange, but if Urushibara said it. Where he said "Urushibara stated that Mushishi is set in an imaginary time between the Edo and Meiji periods, with technology of the 19th century but with Japan as still a country closed to foreign exchange."? In common usage Foreign exchange is Foreign exchange, not isolationism.
The article uses technology not me. The statement was unsourced, becacuse that is not what the statement says. I googled it, read the review, looked to wikipedia to fill in any more peices, and find this trash.

and just for laughs, here is the source, which uses "isolation"

Now, it really really was not hard to find the first translated words, which I will quote for your edification:

It's worht to mention I'm not defending anything but the "citation needed" use. I don't know who wrote this sentence (it can be checked in the article's history, though). I don't said I agree with the sentence, and it was well written. I only put I tag where it's needed. List of Manga Chapters[edit]

I was wondering if someone could make the layout/design for a list of manga chapters and I would be willing to fill them in with names and summaries. You could either start with one of their empty examples, or more helpfully, just copy the code of a fully-filled in example from Wikipedia:Featured lists#Manga, and tweak the contents/details from there. Where are the summaries coming from? (We can't accept copyrighted content. See Wikipedia:Copyright#Using copyrighted work from others for details)
However, if you've written the summaries by yourself (or found them at a site that has a suitable open license, then) :- The easiest way would be to start the list in a user sandbox (eg User:Gakenomushi/Sandbox). I've watchlisted that page, so feel free to experiment there, and I'll help out if I can. Or ask at my talkpage for technical queries.
Specifically: I found at the Anime project's styleguide, the pointer to this template: Template:Graphic novel list (scroll down to "Examples" for a clearer idea). So if you can give me an example for a single volume of the Mushishi manga, of which variables are needed, (eg is it published in English as well as Japanese?) I can help fill out the Sandbox with the appropriate empty templates. (Hopefully that makes sense. It's rather difficult to say. In America they released the first seven volumes and then an omnibus containing 8-10. On amazon.jp I find a Volume 1-7, 9, 10, and the omnibus, but no just volume 8. And no I understand being busy. Gakenomushi (talk) 13:11, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ginko With his white hair and fresh face, Ginko travels through Japan to search for 'Mushi', tiny creature, invisible to the naked eye, which can nest in human bodies, causing all manner of problems. Ginko is a 'Mushishi', a Mushi hunter, but his disinfection technique is much less harsh than that of the American ghosthunters.

The series is equally surprising for its abundance of dialogue and descriptions that take precedence over action. The effectiveness of the result is highly dependent on the beauty of the design, the light variations and the clarity of the colors, which are all extremely natural.
These are gifts that Bugmaster (2006), the live-action feature by Otomo Katsuhiro, does not possess in equal measure. Although it may be a sincere and interesting attempt to move between animation and live action, it does not succeed in communicating the original's sense of wonder.

An anon-editor correctly tagged this External link as "incorrect" (the domain is no longer related to Mushishi).

Mushishi anime's lack of Wikipedia page[edit]

I was going to make a link to the Mushishi anime's Wikipedia page saying "for the anime adaptation, see...", but then i noticed that there is no Mushishi anime Wikipedia page. There is just a list of every episode along side a summary of it. This seems to be quite a hole in the series' Wikipedia entries.

Unless we have enough sources covering the anime adaptation alone (sources for production, reception, and such), I'm not sure if a split is warranted.
