Untitled[edit]

Montpelier is a small town on the Salamonie River, about 40 miles south of Fort Wayne. It is in Blacford County (County Seat - Hartford City) which makes it the second largest town in the second smallest county in Indiana.

Montpelier was a boom town during the late 1800's and early 1900's when a large natural gas deposit was being tapped. Current industry is an extruded rubber factory, a screw making plant, and a cardboard box company. A large grain tranfer station dominates the "skyline".

The high school closed in 1969 when the county school consolidated to the Blackford County school system. The Montpelier class of 1969 was, by any account, the best graduating class in the history of the city. The town fathers and mothers wept openly when they realized what had been lost. The shining star that is the class of '69 burst onto the world in ways that are still reverberating today.--Flyboy97 02:40, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
