About References and Notability[edit]

The first reference, from the National Gallery of Victoria, does tend to provide some evidence for notability, which is why I've spared this article the {{notability}} template. That said, the current state of the article in terms of NPOV and Reliable Sources is absolutely deplorable. The TafeJapan link is apparently a self-published resource, and contains a high ratio of marketing to useful information. It should be replaced with a better source at the first convenient opportunity. Dalamori (talk) 00:14, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Improper Citation / Notability concerns[edit]

merged from Wagae-nuri, deleted on 2009-04-13 - Nabla (talk) 00:35, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The sole citation for this page seems to lead to an advertisement for Michiko Suganuma and her artwork. I briefly read the page and it seems to be entirely marketing material. Since the article on Michiko seems to assert her notability very strongly, I feel there is at least a reasonable chance her style of artwork may be notable. However, I would need to see some very good references explaining how her style is important to the understanding of Japanese lacquer art in order to let this stand, since the article implies heavily that Michiko is the sole practitioner of "Wagae-nuri" and I would support a merge & redirect of "wagae-nuri" to Michiko's article if no evidence of notablity can be found.

Additionally, I think we need to revisit the article's use of the word "traditional" to describe a style of lacquer art which was created by a still-living person. The article needs to assert more clearly why this is a traditional art style, or abandon the claim that it is "traditional". Dalamori (talk) 23:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Update: It appears that Michiko either owns TafeJapan, or TafeJapan is a front company for her, in either case, the text of the site is sufficiently self-serving that I feel it should be removed and replaced with something else as soon as possible in order to prevent this article from going to AFD/merge. So... anybody remember the rules and procedure for putting up this page for deletion? The lack of notability and advertising nature of the article seem obvious enough. I try to see why the page should even be reworked and left to stand, but can't find anything of worth concerning that school. Actually, I'm not even sure the suganuma page makes notability criteria either--Svartalf (talk) 21:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
