Biography[edit]

I understand from recent correspondence with Steve Thornton that the projected biography is in limbo, and that the proposed author has been sacked. In view of that, is it too early to list it? Paul Hodges 14:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand from recent correspondence with the author, that the manuscript is with the printer :-) I suggest we wait a few weeks until ink has hit paper. Also, I suspect the Wikipedia article will be much easier to expand using the book. Martin.leese 21:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The author has now said that this information is incorrect. I have reduced the entry further until we have more information. Paul Hodges 18:52, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted all mention of the biography. Its supposed author, Robert Alexander, no longer responds to e-mails. I asked him about his forthcoming book in July and October 2007. He did not reply to either e-mail. HairyWombat (talk) 20:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the section recently added about this biography. The links to other parts of the author's site are inappropriate here, and the link to the book itself is (a) broken - needs "www.", and (b) "under construction" when you get there. Other parts of the author's site still say "coming in June 2006" which doesn't give confidence that there has been a real change. If the book actually becomes available, then an entry would, of course, be in order. Paul Hodges (talk) 17:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I edited the section anonymously added today. I promoted it to its own section, and tidied it up. I question whether the title "Official" is appropriate, but have left it pending further discussion. I removed the sub-section "Official Michael Gerzon Website" as the website only promotes the book and is not official (whatever that means). Finally, I removed a link to the website from the "Early work" sub-section as the website does not actually describe his early work. HairyWombat (talk) 19:10, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed this section from the text of the article, as the article is about Michael Gerzon, not about a biography of him. I have added the link to details of the biography to the list of external links at the end of the article, where it belongs. Paul Hodges (talk) 00:26, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As with the website, it would help if the anonymous poster added an explanation to this Talk page describing why he or she believes this biography is official. Our (Paul Hodges' and my) understanding is that its release has not been authorized by the late Michael Gerzon's estate. HairyWombat (talk) 16:13, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have corresponded with several of those who contributed interviews; they all agree that permission to release a book based on their contributions has not been given. Indeed, there is a photo of mine in the book (properly acknowledged as such) which I was not asked for permission to use. Paul Hodges (talk) 20:51, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Papers[edit]

I deleted the following section as none of the papers listed actually exists on this site. (I wish they did.) If they ever do then that will be the time to include the site under this heading.

Michael Gerzon Official Archive - all 132 of Michael Gerzon's published papers available in .pdf format as well information on his unpublished papers also. Inaddition, all 458 of his poems can be found listed here as well as an extensive audio archive of Michael Gerzon recordings available to listen to and to download

Hmm - it would be interesting to know what the AES would think of the articles they hold the rights to being published freely as this implies. Paul Hodges (talk) 00:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would also help if the anonymous poster added an explanation to this Talk page describing why he or she believes this site is official. I don't see that the fact an author spent five years researching and writing a book counts. HairyWombat (talk) 19:06, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Hairy Wombat? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.149.240.212 (talk) 22:56, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who are you? If you are Robert Alexander then please read this Wikipedia guideline Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest. HairyWombat (talk) 04:19, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not my place to name him, but I know who he is, and agree with his edits here. Paul Hodges (talk) 00:26, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the reference to an archive of papers. When such an archive exists, it would be appropriate to give details of it; however, Wikipedia is intended to contain facts, not plans, hopes or intentions, so for now mention of it is inappropriate. Paul Hodges (talk) 00:26, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Cite MAG[edit]

Eventually, somebody is going to complain that this article doesn't include any <ref>s. When these are included, many of them will cite the bibliography Michael Gerzon: Beyond Psychoacoustics. To save re-entering the details of this, I have created a convenience template {{Cite MAG}}. To see how to cite pages, chapters, etc, please see the template documentation. HairyWombat 07:17, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Later. I have added a second biography, Michael Gerzon: Audio Pioneer 1945 - 1996, to the convenience template {{Cite MAG}}. Please see the template documentation for Usage. HairyWombat 22:36, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
