Hall of Fame

I removed the Hall of Fame section, because Tony Perez was not inducted as a Marlin and therefore the Marlins do not really have a Hall of Fame presense yet. I hesitated to do that, but if you included every person who was associated with the Marlins who eventually went to the Hall, it would be a long irrelevant list. Do you really want to see Mike Piazza listed there in a few years?

All Seasons Project

I think we should try and create an article for every season of the Marlins, just as has been done for the Minnesota Twins. That way, people can get more information on a specific season that is not listed on the main page, such as rosters for those seasons, etc. Tamajared 20:02, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

"Buying a pennant"

As true as this phrase may be for describing the 1997 season, I recommend that we not use it. This a very common accusation in baseball, especially against the New York Yankees. Not only that, but the Marlins had a smaller salary than the Indians that season, and were only seventh in team salary at 47 million. Yes, that is more than their current palty 15 million, but it is hardly Evil Empire 200 million dollar level spending. [1]. Succeeded by

Do we really need to list the 1998, 1999, and 2000 yankees in the succeeded by? Usually, these just have the next year of data, not the next three years. I know this shows that the Marlins prevented a five year sweep by the Yankees, but it is more of a brag of the Yankees than a simple move to the next year of the World sereis, which the template is supposed to represent. Nickname

One of the things that have become a major part of the baseball articles has been the nicknames. They've ben added to the leads as well as the infoboxes. However, the Marlins are one of the notables not to have one, at least not one mentioned in the article. What nicknames do the Marlins go by? I'm sure they are not known only as "The Marlins". I thought they were also referred to as "The Fish", but I know that's also the Dolphins' nickname, and I wasn't sure if I was just confusing it. - Silent Wind of Doom 18:45, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the Fish is the nickname for the Marlins. The team uses it in their commercials, etc. The Fins is the nickname for the Dolphins, and the Fish is actually a term of derision by other teams about the Dolphins, as in the Jills, Patsies, Dolts, and Fish. "Squish the Fish" was a phrase started by the Patriots as part of their first Super Bowl run. LOL, really? I didn't know "Fish" was used as a derogatory. I'm sure I've heard it used by fans (I'm a fan but don't closely watch football as much as baseball). New Marlins Ballpark

I think someone should create the article New Marlins Ballpark. Ballparks.com has an article which includes a picture, information you can use for the infobox and proposed locations. To get there go to www.ballparks.com and click on the baseball parks icon. Then click on words "National League" in the upper-left corner. The new stadium is a very topical issue with a good deal of media coverage that can be used as a source for a seperate entry. Many other proposed stadiums also have seperate pages[[2]] so I'm not sure why there is an issue with having a page for the marlins park. -- Cmjc80 (talk) 08:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

THe problem wasn't the existance of the pages, but how they were done - lack of sources, crystal balling, and so on. Then there was the deliberate skirting of the AFD process by re-creating the article at new names. - BillCJ (talk) 18:27, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

New Marlins Ballpark 2

New marlins stadium has been created. I again feel this is premature. However, I do think the entire "Stadium/relocation issues" section (which is what this new page basically repeats) should be split off to its own page. That's a losing battle at this point (redirecting them here). THe pages will just be receated again everytime there's new stadium news, which is probably going to be every day for a few weeks. Realizing that, I think leaving the article where it is is the best bet for now. If the deal collapes soon - a real possibility - then I'll support moving the page to Marlins stadium and relocation issues or the like. I'll try to put a strongly-worded hidden note at the top of the New Miami stadium‎ page to discourage the instant-AFD crowd, and encourage them to read and discuss on the talk page first, which I'll set up soon. - BillCJ (talk) 23:18, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Fan Site Links

Why is Teal and Black continually deleted as a link at the bottom of the page? It is a fansite like the other links (MarlinsBaseball and MarlinsNation).

Sometime editors delete links to newer fansites because they are against there being more than 1 or 2 fansites on any given page. Priority is usually given to those with a higher Alexa ranking. I personally don't see a problem with it. I deleted the "Florida Marlins Wiki" to make it a less bit cluttered, since it's just part of Fish@Bat. Miami Marlins Redirect

The top of the page states that Miami Marlins redirects to this page. No it doesn't. It redirects to the Miami Marlins (disambiguation) page. It probably should, but it doesn't. Color changes

Whoever is changing the template colors, please stop. The Marlins defining color is teal, but it is an accent; a complement to the mostly black caps and jerseys. Florida Marlins/Miami Marlins

The article is confusing due to inconsistency concerning the city/name of the club: Florida Marlins vs Miami Marlins.

Much of the language in the article uses the name "Miami Marlins" as if the team is currently referred to this way. However, MLB.com refers to the team as the Florida Marlins as of today, April 4, 2010. I believe the article should be modified to use the name "Florida Marlins" as the club's current name, and a new section should be added to discuss the name change. Style of the article

Nationality of Players

Given the fact that baseball is becoming an increasingly more international sport (i.e., more non-U.S. leagues in existence, more non-U.S. players in the MLB), the roster formatting on Wikipedia should probably be updated to reflect that. If you look at the formatting for other international sports (such as soccer), the player nationalities are indicated using flag icons. I think this would be a beneficial update to each of the major league rosters in the MLB, it would not be too difficult to implement and it would not clutter the information on the page. However, before such change a change is implemented, I thought it would be healthy to achieve at least some form of consensus on the talk page for each team. yuristache (talk) 01:10, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

Florida Marlins revenue sharing controversey

As you may have noticed, the Florida Marlins have had a healthy revenue of around $50 million for the past three years, contradicting their "we are not getting enough money to sustain a team" alibi. It has been leaked that the Marlin's front office has pocketed most of the revenue sharing money while paying next to nothing for their new ballpark and also never investing most of said money into long term contracts. There are numerous articles on the Internet from the Miami Herald for use as citation (please look it up on Google news). Can somebody create a section on this article (and possibly the New Marlins Stadium article) that covers this controversy? Fire sale

why did WP move the Florida Marlins page to Miami Marlins instead of creating a new page for Miami Marlins? The precedent is that when a major-league team moves, a new page is created instead of moving the existing page. E.g. Vancouver Grizzlies & Memphis Grizzlies. Montreal Expos & Washington Nationals. Charlotte Hornets & New Orleans Hornets. Atlanta Thrashers & Winnipeg Jets. Seattle SuperSonics & Oklahoma City Thunder. This is even done in some cases where the team moved before WP would have had an article about the team. Such as Houston Oilers & Tennessee Titans. Rivalries?

In the Rivalries section, it sounds like most of the rivalries are made up by the author...nothing is cited, and some even say "considering the amount of Mets fans in the area" or "considering the Orioles used to play minor league in the next city over"...these hardly sound like rivalries, but rather "teams the Marlins play" or the Yankees because they lost the World Series to them 8 years ago (yet Cleveland is not listed). I could be wrong, but I suggest deleting the entire section unless someone can cite an actual team that has a rivalry with the Marlins. 99.98.221.223 (talk) 04:34, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Oddly enough, there was no mention beyond the NL East team list of the Braves, who have a very large fan base in FL, that Atlanta is the closest NL city to Miami, and that the Marlins have always been a thorn in the Braves' side, esp in '97. Requested minor edit

I think the "citation needed" tag is highly unnecessary, as any proof someone would need could be found in the infobox. Count the division titles/wild cards, then count the championships. If you can provide a reliable source for the claim, please be bold and replace the "Citation needed" template with enough information to locate the source. You may leave the copyediting to someone else, or learn more about citing sources on Wikipedia.

Feel free to just suggest an added reference; simply complaining about the tag isn't helping.

Readers shouldn't have to work out the facts; the reference should verify it. If you can give references to show They are the only current North American major professional sports team to have won a championship every time then please do so, and re-request (even if said refs are already present elsewhere in the article). I hate to nitpick, but as presently constituted it says "2012-present"; it is presently 2011. Could a compromise be reached: changing it to "Starting in 2012" or something similar? Infobox template - colors associated with the team

I am not sure where to put this, so I sincerely apologize if this isn't it, but currently many of the players on the current roster - Emilio Bonifacio,, Omar Infante, Aníbal Sánchez, Josh Johnson, etc display the "Florida Marlins" (i.e. teal) template for their infobox; these obviously need to be changed (I bet it's being worked on as I type this article) but I thought I'd help; how would I go about assigning a color to the Miami Marlin template (currently, it appears to be quite similar to the Free Agent light gray)? --Boston Burkenation (talk) 05:45, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

I agree; I'm in no position to change the Marlins' template, but the current one seems to be teal, despite the fact that the new uniforms barely have any teal at all. May I suggest orange and blue or orange and yellow? Delaywaves ^talk 22:38, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

If we go by that, then let's change the Rays colors to "Navy, Sky and Gold" then. MLB.com is just gonna list basic colors, these two list the exact colors and they are reliable graphic design websites. Perfect for citing this kind of thing. I've dropped my argument on the Blue Jays article because the MLB article will suffice, however on this one, this photobucket image is the best thing we've got at the moment for the exact colors used by the Marlins. Does anyone know where to find official HEX or HTML color codes for the Marlins? I have tried asking every source I can think of (mostly by asking websites such as UniWatch, SportsLogos.net, and even MLB's PR Department, all on Twitter), but I've been completely stonewalled. The sources I've used come from MLB.com and are here, here, and here. I've used Adobe Photoshop's Eyedropper tool (I) to determine the color, and also used Inspect Element (Q) on this image to try to determine the colors also. I'm getting frustrated because User:Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk • contributions) keeps undoing my edits. This user claims the HEX or HTML color for Orange is F9423A (which would be Pantone Warm Red C). I claim it is FF6600 (which would be Pantone 1585 C). Which color is correct? Or are none of those colors correct? I am requesting help here, please.
