Opinion Source - Criticism[edit]

In case others have more time than I do, heres a Forbes staff column that really digs into ConsenSys for how its creating all these blockchain infrastructure projects that are intertwined and (with MetaMask being the most popular/well-known) the company and founder, Joseph Lubin, are setting up "to become one of the controlling titans of the blockchain era," analogous to "tech magnates Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerburg of the internet age."

Perhaps this is better suited over at ConsenSys, though along with more technically-focused sources on MetaMask it might make sense here. HiddenLemon // talk 02:58, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DeFi ref in Intro[edit]

In regards to your last contribution, @HocusPocus00:, it seems a bit vague to say MetaMask allows users to “participate in decentralized finance” without being more specific.

Defi isn’t inherently dependent on using MetaMask, it’s a specific category of dApps and I could participate in defi with any of MetaMask competitors that are built to be more focused on the defi niche like Argent, Coinbase wallet, etc.

Otherwise it would be just as viable to say it allows you to “participate in DeFi, Crypto art, decentralized gaming, social tokens, etc. etc. etc.” All that is simply summed up under the single term, “decentralized applications,” which would be better for the intro section.

That said, I’ve been meaning to look up RS on their new swap feature and it’d be worth mentioning defi in connection to that outside of the intro. HiddenLemon // talk 01:25, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also that source you added is a duplicate btw HiddenLemon // talk 01:31, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Perhaps it was worded poorly-- was just trying to say that MetaMask can be used to access Defi. I think Dapps are a bit different than Defi though right? Like would you consider Uniswap a Dapp? I'd consider Uniswap Defi but not a Dapp. That's why I thought it'd be beneficial to mention both. HocusPocus00 (talk) 06:40, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
After looking at Uniswap further, it looks like they themselves call their exchange an App. I guess mentioning Dapps and Defi would be redundant. HocusPocus00 (talk) 06:43, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
yeah Uniswap and others would be considered part of the defi subcategory of dapps, but still a dapp. HiddenLemon // talk 17:33, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
