Painting[edit]

I wish to create a subsection for portrayals of transgender people in painting. I believe this is an important media that should be included onto this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zmao24 (talkcontribs) 04:44, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

They seem to have essentially the same content and purpose, the only real difference being that that page is in list rather than chart form. Raymond1922 (talk) 04:34, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't merge - I agree that at the moment the articles appear to do the same thing, but I don't think they should be merged. This article should be much closer in scope to Media portrayal of LGBT people, i.e. by talking about the way the media portrays transgender people, since "media" includes news outlets etc. This article needs a lot of work but its topic is (or at least should be, in my opinion) distinct from the list of fictional characters. Comment - Just read the title discussion below - was this article recently renamed? If it keeps this name, my previous comment stands, but if it has another name change to something along the lines of list x/y/z then I'll rethink. Marianna251TALK 21:37, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, this looks like it should be merged. Or at least the fictional characters as there is a huge amount of overlap. Has the plan to expand it to look like the LGBT version been abandoned? SpeakForMe (talk) 23:56, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As this replicates the content and purpose of List of transgender and transsexual fictional characters, there looks to be only two options for this page:
Merge - Rename the page to what it actually contains, then merge with List of transgender and transsexual fictional characters.
Change the scope - Follow the lead of Media portrayal of LGBT people and expand each section.
I'm currently doing both, transferring the few entries that aren't on the main list over, then expanding what remains. This seems to give us the best of both worlds, however if anyone wants to offer an alternative with reasoning I'll happily reconsider. SpeakForMe (talk) 16:07, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gender[edit]

I've added the "gender" column so that people can search easily for trans women, trans men, or non-binary. I'm not convinced its the best way to do it yet, but I think its important.Andral (talk) 22:42, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

This article should be renamed. The capitalization doesn't match how titles of articles in Wikipedia are generally, and it should say 'list' not 'lists'. Shiningroad (talk) 23:34, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This should help with expanding the article btw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transgender_characters_in_film_and_television I see you are already aware of that article's existence Andral but might be useful for anyone else who wants to work on the article, I think the name should be sorted out first though. Gender fluid and gender-fuck races[edit]

For example in Left Hand of Darkness they achieve gendered status on a periodical basis, which can be triggered by the gender of those they are with. In Gaia the Centaurs have a more complex gender, dependent on the genders of their human and horse components. Are they relevant for this list? I notice that LHoD is actually in the list. All the best: Rich Farmbrough15:40, 4 February 2015 (UTC).
