Talk:McCann brothers

I am working to improve this page. I disagree that these brothers are not "of interest" and that it reads like a genealogical record. Daniel McCann, the last brother to be discussed, was the owner of the famous eagle, Old Abe, who fought with Company C. in the Civil War. Arthur McCann's death is of note, and Stephen McCann and his brother Arthur were the first settlers of the Eau Claire area. --AmKnuts0n (talk) 23:40, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If I could be granted permission to add information to the Eau Claire page about the lumber industry and the McCann brothers' integral role therein, I believe I could create at least one tangible link to an outside page.--AmKnuts0n (talk) 00:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really agree that the lead isn't in keeping with Wiki guidelines. I believe that it accurately summarizes the content of the article.--AmKnuts0n (talk) 00:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article problems[edit]

I don't understand this article. I was considering nominating this article for deletion when I first saw it, but I'd rather give you a chance to explain what it is and why it should stay. It needs to meet WP:NOTE to stay. I know you spent a lot of time on it, so let's talk this out thoroughly - I'm not in a hurry. Don't worry about it - I'd prefer to keep the article if it can be interpreted as keepable. Right now I don't see how its keepable, so I'll help you try to make this into something that someone else won't want to delete. While I didn't leave the maintenance comments, here's some problems that I see:

1. Almost every article is written about a single person. Wow can this article be categorized into what year the person was born? Why don't they have individual articles? Why are they grouped together?

2. The lead sounds very much like an eulogy. There's a distinct format in Wikipedia, found at WP:LEAD. The first paragraph should introduce the topic and explain why it's notable. It should not be the background of the topic. That's for the first paragraph in the main body. For example, this article needs to start out:

The McCann brothers were xxx (explain in simple terms what they were and why they were grouped together). Something like The McCann brothers were three brothers who were lumber barons in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. They owned the largest lumberyard in Wisconsin in the 1860s.

Let's start with this and go from here. The article is on my watchlist, so I'll see your comments here and additions to the article. I usually check for comments every evening or occasionally two, so don't expect rapid responses. Royalbroil 02:00, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
