Untitled[edit]

The first edit I will be making is in the first paragraph involving the original sentence: "She then engaged in graduate work, receiving a master's degree (1936) and a doctorate from the University of Michigan, the latter in 1946." I thought changing this sentence to "She then received both a master's degree in 1936 and a doctorate from The University of Michigan in 1946" would prevent any unnecessary repetition and allow the paragraph to flow better.

I also think adding some short background information on the dewberry in the first paragraph would be helpful to the reader, even though it is already hyperlinked: "In 1942, she collected an endangered species of dewberry, a berry closely related to blackberries, from Montgomery County, Kentucky.[1] This dewberry proved to be a new species and was named Rubus whartoniae in her honor." The original sentence would then be split into two.

The first sentence in the second paragraph was also a bit confusing, so I am changing it to: "After her doctoral work, she spent 30 years teaching at Georgetown College and later became head of the Biology Department." I believe this revision is more concise and purposeful.

My final edit is in the last paragraph. I added some information that could be useful for the article, as well as rearranging the sentence: "Wharton was involved in environmental activism throughout her later years in particular issues such as the proposed damming of the Red River Gorge and the expansion of the Paris Pike.[1] She additionally was a member of the Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy."
