Citations[edit]

There are now 44 citations on the article, yet we still have a box from November 2012 that says "This biographical article needs additional citations for verification." Can I just remove that box? Is there some procedure that needs to be followed to remove the box? Does it still need more citations? Kzirkel (talk) 12:30, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No procedure, anyone can remove them. – SJ + 17:18, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

The Commons has several closer headshots, including a Quality Image submitted by me. Yet the article is using a distant head and shoulders image where she is awkwardly holding a microphone and clicker. Apparently User:Lauravelletri prefers her own image, and finds the others "unflattering", which is her opinion. She has removed images submitted by others on several occasions. Is there some way to neutrally resolve this? I would think a headshot is preferable to a distant half-body shot for the main image, no? Can't the article contain multiple images? I'm not clear what the rules are, or how to resolve disputes. - Kzirkel (talk) 11:20, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, more images would be good. Headshots are always preferred for infoboxes. Newer photos are generally better. I don't see any input from that user for many years, so probably this issue has been resolved. – SJ + 17:18, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edit. I probably shouldn't care about my photo being used ... but I do think it's a pretty decent shot. - Kzirkel (talk) 19:38, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Openwater (project)[edit]

Article is more about her involvement than the companies notability. Classicwiki (talk) (ping me please, I don't watch pages) 17:29, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Classicwiki, I have redirected this per it being an uncontested merge. If there is anything you want to merge you can do it from the history. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:32, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lead is waaaaaay too lengthy[edit]

The lead section of the article contains too much content. If we want to be fussy, it probably violates WP:MOS guidelines, as it is more than four paragraphs in length. I happened to be reading WP lead guidelines today, as I was revising the recently created BLP of Teresa Woodruff, who was mentioned in an article about Wikipedia in Wired a few days ago. That got me thinking about women in STEM, I am one of them in real life ;o) so I had a look at Mary Lou Jepsen's article out of curiosity. I realize that the lead of the article is what most viewers of WP articles spend the most time on; that was mentioned in MOS:LEAD too! I don't think that stuffing the lead with so many details is helpful, as the initial impression is one of a dense wall of text with peripheral things that clearly belong in the body, specifically all those details about the companies rather than about Gepson herself. This is HER biographical article, not a promotional piece for Google or a no longer extant Taiwan start-up. That information belongs in the body of the article.

Another problem with such a lengthy lead (and so many citations in the lead!) is that it makes the rest of the article seem short in comparison, thus, in my opinion, diminishing the significance of the accomplishments of the subject of this BLP. I am going to make some incremental edits to restructure the lead accordingly.--FeralOink (talk) 14:41, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Shortened somewhat. I removed this as not particularly relevant: "also a member of the Xconomists, an ad hoc team of editorial advisors for the tech news and media company, Xconomy.[1]" – SJ + 02:44, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
