Warning, citation to avoid[edit]

Someone had used oiseaux-birds as a citation for size. This citation should be strictly avoided, per WP:CIRCULAR. As stated on the page, they use wikipedia as one of their sources. For a long time, the wikipedia article claimed the Martial Eagle has a wingspan of 188–260 cm, even citing Ferguson-Lees & Christie. This is wrong: Ferguson-Lees & Christie says its wingspan is 188–227 cm. I am not aware of any reliable reference that provides a higher figure. I hope this warning minimizes the risk that the measurements are changed based on oiseaux-birds again. 62.107.236.167 (talk) 14:31, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Martial eagle

The martial eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) is a large eagle native to sub-Saharan Africa. A species of the booted eagle subfamily (Aquilinae), it has feathering over its tarsus. One of the largest and most powerful species of booted eagle, it is a fairly opportunistic predator that varies its prey selection between mammals, birds and reptiles. It is one of few eagle species known to hunt primarily from a high soar, by stooping on its quarry. Currently, the martial eagle is classified as endangered by the IUCN. This martial eagle was photographed in the Matetsi Safari Area in Zimbabwe.
