- Yes, they are. There are enough other uses of this name that someone searching for 'Markel' on Wikipedia should not automatically be directed to the Markel Corporation, because it's highly likely they are looking for something else. The 'Markel' article on Spanish Wikipedia is about the German and Basque given name. I think a disambiguation page is better for English Wikipedia so it can include the Markel Corporation and people whose surname is Markel.Kallionae (talk) 12:06, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
