Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Mark Rippetoe is one of the foremost strength coaches in America and is strongly involved in the CrossFit movement. His book Practical Programming for Strength Training is one of, if not the most authoritative text on developing strength training programs for elite athletes. His books are cited in dozens of Wikipedia articles about strength topics. He is one of the only strength training authors who combines an academic science background with decades of practical experience. He is extremely notable in the powerlifting, strength coaching, and CrossFit communities.Manicjedi (talk) 02:05, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added to the article to reflect this information. Manicjedi (talk) 02:27, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:CSD#A7:

The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.

This article no longer qualifies for speedy deletion and the {{db-person}} template added to this article by Reddogsix should be removed. Manicjedi (talk) 02:54, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Status and Advice[edit]

The following was posted on my talk page indicating the result of my contest:

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the article, but for promotionalism, not failure to show importance. You did indicate importance. Whether it amounts to actual notability is something for the community to determine.

However, the article was extremely promotional, using adjectives of praise throughout. I tried at first to edit it, but I think it needs to be rewritten entirely. When you do that, include references to reviews of his books. Since the article asserts scientific publications, list them. And don't claim too many "noted for"s in the infobox. I have requested the deleted page be moved to my user namespace and will move it back once it has been properly rewritten.Manicjedi (talk) 04:30, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite[edit]

I have completely rewritten this article and believe it is now ready for the main namespace. Phew.Manicjedi (talk) 16:10, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AfD[edit]

The general consensus on the AfD looks strongly in favor of keeping.Manicjedi (talk) (contribs) (templates) 17:43, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Crossfit Affiliation[edit]

The information about his affiliation with crossfit was removed, but there was no reason given. The sources indicate that he was, at least at some point, associated with crossfit. If that information is incorrect, there needs to be a source to show that. —Manicjedi (talk) (contribs) (templates) 06:02, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He was. I personally took a CF certification with him teaching the course in 2008 at CF SoCal in San Diego. Google "CrossFit Rippetoe" for more info.Pär Larsson (talk) 01:23, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request
