Cleaned Up English Translation[edit]

Visited the German original article and used it to improve the English version (which semed to me as a machine-translation). -- WikiReviewer.de 12:19, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Driving Under the Influence[edit]

Added a new section concerning Käßmann driving under the influence of alcohol. It is an ongoing subject and probably will change soon, especially regarding the consequences, if any, of her actions and what that would do to her in her role as head of the Evangelical Church in Germany. Verweiler (talk) 16:20, 23 February 2010 (UTC) 17:19, 27 February 2010 (CET)[reply]

I don't think the section should be included at all unless it becomes clear that this is going to have a significant impact on her career. Wikipedia is not a newspaper and we shouldn't include everything that happens to everyone unless it's part of the bigger picture. +Angr 17:14, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It happend to be important. The Huffington post quote is a) unacceptable neither is the alleged libel label of any importance in Germany. --Polentario (talk) 20:40, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What Huffington Post quote? The only thing I could find about it at the Huffington post is this reprint of the AP story already cited. If you're talking about the anon vandalism, it's not even worth discussing here. WP:RBI. +Angr 22:00, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Huffington would be able to come up with such a story, wont it. I asked for a semiprotetction and got it. --Polentario (talk) 22:18, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

"1. ^ In the German context, "Evangelical" corresponds roughly to "mainline Protestant" rather than to "Evangelicalism" as that is understood in English-speaking countries."

That is so, so why do the authors of this entry use "Evangelical" at all? "Protestant" ("protestantisch" is often used in German synonymously to "evangelisch") would do perfectly without creating such an unnecessary confusion.

-- Skowronek The Lark (talk) 13:14, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because the church is known in English as the Evangelical Church in Germany, not the Protestant Church in Germany. —Angr (talk) 18:51, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hannover[edit]

The fact that she was bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hannover is mentioned in the lede, but other than that, it does not seem worth much consideration. This, IMO, is a gross misrepresentation and misunderstanding of this office which certainly was the most important one in her career, not the EKD office.

The protestant churches of Germany are independent church bodies; the EKD is only a federation of these church bodies, not a church body of its own right. The EKD office she held for a short time was possible only because she was bishop of this large church body.

If someone has literature at hand, it would be nice if a section on her office as a bishop could be added. --91.34.40.171 (talk) 07:22, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Curate"[edit]

I don't see how the term curate is at all helpful in explaining what a "Vikarin" is. These terms are used so differently in each country and in each denomination that the explanation "a person who is invested with the care or cure (cura) of souls of a parish" is not going to help anyone understand anything.

It might be more helpful to give a short explanation like "practical training phase" or something similar. --91.34.33.51 (talk) 22:14, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed it.
In case anyone wonders about the "of her education": "Vikarin" is a female title and will work for woman pastors only. So it has to be the female pronoun here. --2003:C0:8F03:D300:BD2B:7C41:7CF8:AF86 (talk) 09:17, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
