Marcus Foster Recreation Center[edit]

The article says "After his death, various sites were named in his honor" ... "and the Marcus Foster Recreation Center in Philadelphia featured in the movie 'Pride.'" At first I thought there was an anachronism in the movie as it presents the recreation center as having been named the "Marcus Foster Recreation Center" for years, if not decades before 1974. Specifically:

  • At 13:41 it there is an old, obviously worn, sign that says "MARC FOSTER / Recreation Center" - I know, it should say "Marcus" but I don't see any room in the spacing for the "us." The implication is the name existed long before 1974.
  • At 14:45 Elston (Bernie Mac) says "I've been a Marcus Foster man ever since the place was built." The place is in obvious decay and the implication the recreation center has been named "Marcus Foster Recreation Center" for decades.

Any - so the movie has that detail wrong. No problem, I then got curious about what the name of the recreation center was before 1974 and realized there does not seem to be a Marcus Foster Recreation Center other than the one in the movie. The PDR lists 139 locations for swimming and none of them are named Marcus or Foster.

For now I've preface the comment about the recreation center in the article body with "fictional" but am not sure if a fictional site should even be included in the list of sites named after Marcus Foster. Marc Kupper (talk) (contribs) 07:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

check this link [1]. not only does it list the Marcus Foster Indoor Pool, but it lists Ellis as still being on staff there! Therfore, I've renamed it to the pool name in the article, as I agree that I can't find any reference to it as a "recreation center" and removed the "fictional" modifier. Perfect and thank you! [2] lists the street address as 1601 W. Hunting Park, Philadelphia, PA. I'll assume the pool is in the building to the south as I see a water tower and what is either an incinerator or industrial water heater. [3] I've updated the page to include a link to the page listing the pool as a reference. Marc Kupper (talk) (contribs) 01:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Projects[edit]

I added SFBA, Schools and Biography banners to the California banner I added in 2007.--Hjal (talk) 07:26, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Middle name?[edit]

Do we have a source for his middle name being "Albert" rather than "Aurelius" (as shows up in a couple of places)? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 00:53, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
