I'm a bit concerned about the "fan reaction" section: it seems more like opinion rather than something that should be in an encyclopedia. Should it be rewritten to be neutral, or removed? Karn-b 16:28, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grandfather...[edit]

In the second season, when going through the backstory on the founding of Vesper, Suguru's grandfather mentions his relationship with the Saint woman and I think he said he had a daughter with her. Is this daughter 1) suguru's mother, 2) mahoro, or 3) someone else? Gront 21:34, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suguru's mother, I believe the second-to-last episode says. Which makes sense given that he's Suguru's grandfather, after all. --24.184.131.16 (talk) 21:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

While the trivia template is now subject to deletion, this may be of interest in the interim:

In episode 4 of the second season of the anime, one of the individuals with "The Management" is handed a "report" about Mahoro's recent activities that is actually comprised of one of the editor's notes on Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason, which is included in entirety and then the latter paragraph is repeated.

--Eibwen 02:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The trivia about Mahoromatic being the last cel animated anime appears to be false. ANN reports that Sazae-san is, in fact, the last cel animated anime, and traditionally painted as well. Perhaps it was the last one done so by Gainax, but that is much lesser trivia, and wholly unsupported. --Pipian 05:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Management / Keepers[edit]

The article of the day July 19 2009 is mentioning the organization which tried to fight Saints as Management. However, following the manga releases of Tokyopop in English, this organization is referred as the Keepers. Even if one or another name is valid, both should at least be mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.79.45.185 (talk) 20:01, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaga's description[edit]

'2- Director Yamaga himself described Mahoromatic as essentially a "bespectacled, serious and innocent young boy meets overly-friendly girls/women with big tits" show, with no real mention of anything else.'

From http://eva.onegeek.org/pipermail/oldeva/2002-February/040863.html

If anyone has spare time, you might want to track down this quote - it would be about the best possible material there is for a summary or interpretation or reception section. I suspect it will be difficult to find the original source; Bochan_bird is bilingual & lives in Japan, and apparently that quote is from a "Gainax Live!" event that Yamaga spoke at, which introduced Mahoromatic. (See [1] and [2].) Live events & speeches like that, unfortunately, rarely get transcribed and quoted into the sort of mass-media publication which RS demands. --Gwern (contribs) 18:13 10 January 2010 (GMT)

Anime ending[edit]

The section of the article states: "Matthew comments that she will leave behind on Earth a 'memory of springtime' that has been disturbing her and will not be needed as Saint sets off to resume wandering the galaxy." Doesn't Mahoro end up staying on Earth at the end? I thought that's what this sentence was referring to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doctorx0079 (talkcontribs) 21:49, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that sentence was unnecessary detail so I replaced it with a more straightforward explanation of what happens. -- Doctorx0079 (talk) 21:39, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, your edits aren't making it "straightforward". They're repeatedly replacing the actual content of the anime with inaccurate speculations that you find easier to understand than the actual content. We are not supposed to interpret or speculate, we're supposed to describe.
What is the actual content? Matthew says that she will leave behind a "memory of springtime" that has been bothering her. She also says that it (the memory) will not be needed after they leave. Mahoro reappears; no direct explanation is given.
Matthew does not directly say that this memory is Mahoro (though a reader / viewer can probably infer that themselves). Nor does she say she's creating Mahoro of her own "will". Nowhere is it said that Saint technology is used to create Mahoro. And nowhere is it said that the creation took twenty years. Honestly, I don't even know how you got that last conclusion from the anime - nothing of the sort is said or even hinted at. All of this is your own interpretation of what Mahoro's unexplained reappearance means, and does not belong.
The ending is oblique (unclear), probably deliberately so. If you find it confusing, please do feel free to take it up with Hideaki Anno - though you'll have to get in a long line of fans who have their own beefs with the ending. But please don't continue to change an accurate description of it to an inaccurate description that you prefer. 76.22.25.100 (talk) 21:24, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On further review, my apologies for asserting that you'd actually seen the content but misunderstood it. But re-interpreting copypasta from a known unreliable source ([5],[6]) is not an improvement on having actually seen it but misunderstood it. 76.22.25.100 (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see much more in the "Anime Ending" section other than wishful thinking. Suguru dies and is united with the recently released spirit of Mahoro. They are in the next life which Mahoro discovered in season one, episode 5 and spoke of in her monologue in season one, episode 10 (A Warriors Fate) "Quote; "I believe that once the soul has left the flesh, it goes to the next world and can never return. I am convinced that everyone has only one time of tears and pain, and so the soul endures. Commander Misato had had his time and so his soul will live on in the other world. As for myself, once my soul has left, I to can never return." The reason the whole scene was so weird with the vendor selling drinks in the early morning, etc. was because Suguru had gone to another world, where he could be with Mahoro again. It is the "other world" Mahoro predicted.Corumplex (talk) 05:46, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaga[edit]

Mr. Yamaga Thank you very much. The first of the new shows is called Mahoromatic. This series is based on an original comic and we made 12 episodes for this show. Since the comic book series is not quite over... there are going to be 14 more episodes and that is going to be the end of the anime.

AQ Is Mahoromatic cel based?

Mr. Yamaga It is cel based and it will be the last one. Originally when the project came to be, I thought that it was still possible to make cel animation. However, it is getting harder and harder to find people who will paint the cels and people who will film the cels. It seems like the industry is going more and more toward computers and it is getting harder and harder to make cel animation.

Mr. Akai The first series was on cels and it was filmed on 35 millimeter prints, kind of like feature films, but the second season is going to be on computers. AQ Will this cause a big difference in the look of the series or is it going to have the same basic style?

Mr. Akai As long as you are watching it on television, it is not going to make a big difference. It might actually get slightly better. If you are watching it on a large screen, then you will be able to tell a difference. [Ed note: Large screen=movie screen]

AT A couple of questions about Mahoromatic: Where does the second season pick up in the story?

Mr. Yamaga In the comic book series, the first season covered up to the third book. The second season will pick up from the beginning of the fourth volume. However, the Tv series has surpassed the comic book in its speed and the Tv series is going to end before the comic book. The author has said that you can't really end it in the same way, you just cant. So the later half of the second season is going to be very different from the comic book. In fact, Gainax itself has not been given the details of the way that the comic is going to go. So we are kind of .. trying to find our way in the dark. AT What was it about the Mahoromatic story that said to you, "This is going to make a great animation. People are really going to want to watch this?" Mr. Yamaga Originally, Pioneer had brought the comic book to us and presented the series. We did not really look at it very carefully. We realized that it was a particular genre called the Maid genre. We hadn't done that yet and it seemed a little bit interesting, so we decided to make Mahoromatic.

AQ The ending of Mahoromatic has a very enjoyable dance video sequence. Did you come up with that using live dancers? Mr. Yamaga Actually, I came up with it at night and just kind of figured it out. I felt very silly when I'm did it at night. I did a little bit and wrotes it down, did a little bit more and wrote it down. That is kind of how it was made. [Ed note: Its our impression that he acted it out, which is why he felt silly doing it.] AQ I found it kind of interesting how the ending song of Mahoromaticwas like advertising. Did you write the lyrics? Mr. Yamaga Actually, I did not write the lyrics myself. Somebody else wrote the lyrics. Any other questions?

"Mahoro" does not mean butler[edit]

I can't find any evidence that "mahoro" means butler. I checked two different dictionaries. Please find a reliable source before adding this again. -- Doctorx0079 (talk) 14:05, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Years published[edit]

The original run in Comic Gum was not 2000-2006. It ran in Comic Gum from 1998-2004. https://books.google.com/books?id=GvEFDD4rdWMC&pg=PT695&lpg=PT695&dq=%22comic+Gum%22+2004&source=bl&ots=K117b_CHGu&sig=ACfU3U2P2XtbhyW1p5yMrDaLfzFtn8xyNw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjL6pybopTmAhXlLX0KHdGzCeAQ6AEwAnoECAoQAQ#v=onepage&q=%22comic%20Gum%22%202004&f=false And no, I'm not going to just "be bold" when I have no idea who owns the page or whether they revert everyone out of hand.
