Third Opinion[edit]

There is currently a disagreement on whether this game is an Action Platformer or not. I personally believe that the articles description while a bit dry on info, describes the game this way itself almost to perfection. But then again, I think this video will also show support for my side.

But I think we may need a third opinion on this. Platformers can have either action or adventure. Magician Lord has action, Pitfall! has adventure, and Super Mario Bros. has both. How can you justify "Action Platformer"? IX|(C"<) 19:28, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever, an Action Platformer requires physical action to progress. You do not need to constantly attack to progress in Super Mario Bros or Pitfall 2. Action Platformers can apply to Metal Slug as well (although that is debatable), Megaman, Ratchet and Clank, Commander Keen, and more. In order to progress past certain parts of the game, or do use/gain certain game mechanics or features, you need to CONSTANTLY use physical action. Something you don't need to do in Pitfall and SMB. Your definition "requiring physical action" is extremely subjective, and could probably be argued for virtually any platformer if someone wanted to twist it their way. I'd say keep it "platformer" unless you can find a reliable source stating "action-platformer". Sergecross73 msg me 13:48, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It actually reads "Requiring a physical action as a main way to progress" as in none of the games you are thinking this can be spun into. The reason why in many places (and some pages on here) Action Platformer is named in the first place. I don't know what games you ar thinking, but I can't see someone twisting the above. Dude above said SMB, yet that makes no sense because Physical action is not your primary way of getting around, nor is it required for a large amount of progression in the game. Physical action is a requirement for all platformers. So, provide a source, or it doesn't go in. Sergecross73 msg me 03:23, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
