The first completely modern removable box magazine was NOT patented in 1908.

The complete quote is " The first completely modern removable box magazine was patented in 1908 by Arthur Savage for the Savage Model 99.[6]". Arthur Savage may have held the first patent but defiantly didn't invent the first removable box magazine. I'm not sure what the first one was but the 1889 Schmidt Rubin has a detachable box magazine.

This page suggests it was James Paris Lee in 1879. http://weaponsman.com/?p=670

This page http://weaponsman.com/?p=606 claims the Wikipedia reference to savage's patent is inaccurate and that it was for a magazine that activates a bolt hold-open. It suggests "The first weapon that had a detachable box magazine appears to be the Borchardt C93 pistol, on the market in 1893." I know the Borchardt wasn't the first because the 1889 Schmidt Rubin exists.

Some research is needed but it looks like the first might be James Paris Lee in 1879. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.79.10.15 (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
