Madisonville, Texas is a beautiful town located about 60 miles north of Houston just two miles west of I-45 north on hwy 21. Overall, the city is a wonderful place to visit, especially the Woodbine Hotel. The Woodbine has a long history and the architecture is a wonder to be seen. The hotel restaurant serves delicious meals with an ambiance that cannot be beat.

Madisonville is known as the horse capital of Texas for a good reason. The best trainers in the state are here, whether it is for racing, reining, roping,or pleasure. The best bloodlines in the Quarterhorse world can be found in Madison county.

Madisonville C.I.S.D is passable, but after sending two children there I would not recommend it. The size of a bank account too often determines the outcome when your children would be better served by blind justice.

The climate in Madisonville is variable. The summers frequently reach 100 degrees, but fortunately the south winds from the coast (142 miles to the south) keep a little breeze blowing most of the time. Winter is usually pretty mild, rarely getting below freezing. The coldest weather is in the months of January and February. Rainfall amounts are adequare for a beautiful lawn or a bumper crop of hay. I have seen years when there were 5 cuttings of top quality hay, and when there were only 2. Snow is a rare sight.

The terrain is rolling hills. Lakes tend to be small, many times they are glorified stock tanks. Trees are abundant. Many areas are filled with fruit trees. The pecan orchards are especially beautiful in the spring and early summer.

For those who enjoy fishing, the most unlikely looking creek is probably filled with a huge variety of fish, including some of the biggest catfish you will ever see. To catch a hungry catfish, use bait shrimp that has set in the sun for about 5 hours and smells so bad the dogs won't eat it.
