Format or file extension

Is m4v an actual file format, or is it just a file extension used for mp4 files that you want iTunes to open (instead of whatever app is assigned to the .mp4 file extension)? This article implies that there is a DRM element to m4v files, but other sources state that there's no difference. Djkuula (talk) 17:50, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

.m4v is a popular format. It differs from .mp4 as of the codecs it contains and the fact that FairPlay DRM can be put onto m4v whereas it can't on .mp4 meaning that it is a real format that deserves notability. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RoboHomo (talk • contribs) 21:25, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

The sentence is obviously misleading. I think the "with the aim..." refers to M4V from the beginning of the sentence, not to MPEG-4 AVC.—J. M. (talk) 22:56, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

FFmpeg support
