General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Overall, the article meets all the criteria, being new enough, long enough, well-cited, and neutral, and QPQ is satisfied. I would prefer the main hook over the alt, but I have some slight concerns over both, as Alt1 seems vague and the main hook feels oddly phrased to me. Maybe highlighting that the event took place over a hundred years before it was "finally recognized" would help. JJonahJackalope (talk) 20:45, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wife or Unknown[edit]

  • @Cwmhiraeth and Theleekycauldron: The article goes up at DYK tomorrow. It is a great article but I Just wanted to check with you to get your opinion on one thing. Most of the newspapers at the time reported that it was Luther's wife Annie Holbert who was killed with him. One source calls her Mary. But lately historians have called her an "unknown woman". So I wrote the article to say unknown woman. The memorial marks Holbert's woman companion as "Unknown". Maybe a sentence can be added to explain this discrepancy? Thanks in advance, just wanted to get this to you before it goes live, and explain why I wrote it to say "unknown". Bruxton (talk) 16:31, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruxton: Unknown woman seems good to me. Even if it was his wife, historians cannot be sure. I found the section "Lynching" somewhat confusing; the second paragraph should perhaps go before the first, or the sentences be reordered to make it more chronological.
