Disputed Facts

Let's be honest, nothing in this article can be actually proved. Its a WP:CRYSTALBALL article with no hard proof behind it. EoRdE6 (talk) 05:55, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Sure it can. If the sources say so, then we report on that. That's the central tenant of WP:V. Also, your invocation of WP:CRYSTALBALL seems misapplied. The article has discriminate information backed up by multiple, reliable, third-party sources. Please don't just slap on a factual accuracy tag and then make a vague, one-liner comment for the discussion, as you have done. Until you can provide some specific examples, I don't believe it is appropriate to have that tag on the article. I'd like to ask that you please not reinsert it until we can define what exactly is factually inaccurate in the article, rather than just making generalizing statements like "nothing in this article can be actually proved". Artichoker[talk] 06:31, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Deletion

More sources will arise as time progresses since some of these events are fairly recent so please refrain from deleting the page. I will add sources as more appear.Faissaloo (talk) 23:20, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

I honestly see no reason to delete this article, all it needs is some more sources in regards to the North Korea DDoS (which obviously, are a little harder to get because of the nature of North Korea), it can be fixed via editing, and does not need to be deletedFaissaloo (talk) 09:35, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

2014 gaming industry DDoS attacks

I propose a single article devoted to the central topic of these ongoing attacks. Perhaps 2014 gaming industry DDoS attacks. This group has targeted numerous services over a period of several months. Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, Electronic Arts, PlayStation Network, Riot Games, Steam, Twitch and Xbox Live have all suffered downtime. We can constrain this article and prevent it from turning into a personal trophy cabinet, by fawning anon editors. — TPX 12:00, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

How the attackers feel about the article is irrelevant, this is meant to be an entirely factual piece.Faissaloo (talk) 13:42, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, but today as I type, this article is a bad joke. It's sourced in part to Lizard Squad's twitter feed and some embarrassing YouTube commentary, with separate headings for each of their targets, and a picture of a Lizard wearing a hat in the info column. — TPX 13:55, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
The article is no where near done, there's a lot of stuff to put on there Faissaloo (talk) 15:50, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Agree this article

e to tout their victories. The only reason these people do this is for publicity and fame. EoRdE6 (talk) 19:25, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

FBI claims

Faissaloo is adding in the following statement into the bomb threat section: This event prompted the FBI to open an investigation into Lizard Squad.

The sources being provided are this Forbes piece, this GameZone piece, and another Forbes piece. I do not believe any of these sources provide solid evidence of an FBI investigation into Lizard Squad.

The first Forbes piece says the group is known for "...attracting the FBI’s attention for tweeting out a bomb threat". Nothing confirms an investigation in this line, only a reference to "attention" (which is not the same as an investigation) and nothing to prove that they attracted the FBI's attention.

The GameZone piece says "but a spokesperson [for Sony] did confirm to us that the FBI "is handling" the situation. What that means exactly remains to be seen, but I assume the FBI has taken charge in an investigation into a series of tweets by hacker group Lizard Squad..." Again, no confirmation that Lizard Squad is being investigated; merely speculation from a source that doesn't appear to be reliable.

The second Forbes piece (from the same author of the first piece) says the group is "FBI-hunted" and they "land[ed] themselves on the radar of the FBI." Again, no actual proof that an investigation is occurring or has occurred.

Until a reliable source can come out and say that the group is being investigated by the FBI, I don't think it should stand in the article. only (talk) 16:32, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Very well, my mistake, I was under the impression that there was an investigation Faissaloo (talk) 12:48, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Is DDoSing hacking?

ThePowerofX seems to believe that DDoSing can not be counted as hacking, and seems to disregard the Machinima hack thus keeps editing out the infobox because of this Faissaloo (talk) 16:46, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

I was unaware of the earlier attack on Machinima Inc. That said, I have removed the Lizard avatar from the infobox until a reliable source identifies this as their official logo. — TPX 19:56, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
This may be the case, as sources are actually questioning it[1], an alternative description would be troll group. The Machinima hack was because their DNS records were compromised, a site which is 89,410th in the world.--Vaypertrail (talk) 20:28, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Can you actually get some sources for the DNS records being compromised? That would be something that would really benefit the article Faissaloo (talk) 21:30, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Ok Dizzyzane changed the infobox :/ Can you just stop messing with the infobox unless you're going to add something to it?Faissaloo (talk) 23:03, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Arrests?

Haven't there been some arrests of members of this group? I remember hearing that a few had interviews with the BBC which ended up revealing their identities. I think this article needs some updating by someone more familiar with the group. 24.188.185.162 (talk) 15:21, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

  • The media reported that a suspected member was arrested two days ago. It would be premature to add this until it is confirmed. This is a developing story. • Gene93k (talk) 19:24, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Security reporter Brian Krebs has provided considerable detail on this group. [2] A number of important events are missing from this article, including
1. The harassment of Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley
  • (a) Posting a picture of his father's gravestone [3]
  • (b) Diverting the aircraft he was traveling on by calling in a bomb threat [4]
2. The extensive use of ISIS hashtags, flags and praise for the Islamic terror group [5]
3. Various squatting attacks
  • (a) A Lizard Squad member is accused of communicating death threats to Sandy Hook Elementary school, umpteen months after a gunman had intruded and killed 20 children there
Many of the abhorrent things they have done are absent. — TPX 20:53, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
@Gene93k:, most of this article is about things the squad claims they did...is that much different from putting in information about arrests that they police claim are possible members of the squad? only (talk) 21:05, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

False Claims

Bomb threats should not be under false claims as they did actually get the plane diverted, their aim was not to actually bomb the plane but to cause disruption and panic or 'troll' Faissaloo (talk) 18:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

@Faissaloo: They claimed there were bombs on board, there were no bombs on board. False claim... Though a different meaning to the rest of the section. Idk really where it should go because it was a false claim, just different to the others. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 19:20, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

The whole Taylor Swift thing should not be under false claims either as Lizard Squad are currently having a bitcoin 'tipjar' which when filled will apparently be when they release the nudes, if they do not release any nudes then it can go under this section, but for now we can not value two different people's voices just because 1 is a criminal and the other is famous Faissaloo (talk) 18:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Unexplained Removal of Content

Vaypertrail (talk · contribs) -- Edit in Question

I can't understand why your are removing content and using less formal wording. Care to explain? Thanks! EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 00:29, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

How can it be less formal wording, when it is merely removal of information? It's called being more to the point.
I've also noticed you haven't actually made any real content edits in your last 100 edits, which makes me think you are just looking for trivial reasons to revert.--Vaypertrail (talk) 00:42, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey there, please update the piece on Vinnie and also add in the Google Vietnam hack recently done by Lizardsquad. For Vinnie, he wasn't arrested for breaking or entering computers or anything else, ONLY Paypal Fraud (which he didn't actually commit but that's besides the point). Maybe add a photo of him, the normal one with the white background in which he looks kinda tired and pissed off will work. You can find it on Google images. Also if you feel like adding it in, I suggest saying he has a super cute girlfriend now.

- Yours truly, The aforementioned super cute girlfriend Kalisasaa (talk) 10:00, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

(P.S, if you need sources to back up the fact he was only arrested for Paypal Fraud look up his bail documents, he took a photo and I think it states his charges.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kalisasaa (talkcontribs) 10:05, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
