Pontifex maximus not always the highest office[edit]

According to page 922 of Caesar's Women (ISBN 0380710846 published in 1997), before the founding of the Roman Republic, the Rex Sacrorum was the highest-member of the Roman polytheists. Pontifex maximus was created in 509 BCE to outrank the Rex Sacrorum.--17:42, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Explaining my deletions[edit]

I went through Broughton to verify these, and along the way deleted most information that didn't pertain strictly to the office of Pontifex Maximus. If there were a better introduction explaining overlap with magistracies, and if the information were put in a table so it was easier to make comparisons, it could be quite useful. As it was, it seemed too hard to read through. Cynwolfe (talk) 22:39, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
