Rename?

Would it make more sense to just name this article "Governor of Florida"? It is not a simply a list, but discusses the position in general. It therefore follows that it is an article on the position, with the list simply a part of it. If discussion does not develop, I will be bold and move it. Cheers! Crist's political party

I don't see why some people keep reverting the update to the current governor's party affiliation. Crist was elected as a Republican and has now left the party and declared himself an independent while he's still in office. "Republican/independent" is the only logical description I can think of, as listing one or the other is incomplete.

If somebody can make the table look better while keeping all the necessary info listed, that's great. However, pretty or not, accuracy and completeness dictates that it all must stay regardless of how "ugly" it makes that column look. Zeng8r (talk) 16:46, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

He was elected as a Republican. The people chose him as that. He is switching his affiliation late in his term - too late to matter for his current office - for his next office. You don't need an ugly table cell to do that, and I will revert once my 24 hours are up. Either make a new cell, or just handle it in a footnote. He was elected as a Republican and that is the primary thing. He, accurately, is a Republican governor. That he switched late in his term for reasons having nothing to do with the governorship is treated, at most, in a footnote. --Golbez (talk) 17:29, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

This article published in the St. Pete Times on the day after Crist announced his independent run says the following: "Gov. Charlie Crist didn't just walk away from the Republican Party Thursday — he ran, saying he would abandon his lifelong GOP voter registration as he launches an independent and unprecedented campaign for the U.S. Senate." It was cited in the article but was inexplicably removed when the "mess" was fixed last time around.
On the other hand, there is no source to back up the contention that Crist has not switched parties. I'm going to go ahead and revert until/unless a refuting source is added. Zeng8r (talk) 03:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

List of Governors of Florida → Governor of Florida — Makes more sense. Just because it includes lists doesn't mean it has to have "list" in the title. Heck, the former Governor of Florida article's content has even been merged to and it now redirects to here. Cybercobra (talk) 02:27, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Oppose. Inclusion of information about the office means that that information should be punted back to a new Governor of Florida article detailing the American office, its powers, and its history. "His Excellency"

The link to a 160-year old source does nothing to indicate that the honorific "His Exellency" is still used in Florida, is especially not proof that any current governor is called by the title. The edit warring needs to stop.--Cúchullain t/c 20:38, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Election procedure and terms

The list of governers page is the target if you click on a link for Florida governers. That means this page is where you end up if you have no concerns whatsoever who was governer in the past but just want to find out how long terms are and when the next election is. Why is this information so hard to find?70.113.72.73 (talk) 03:15, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Term length is right in the infobox and in the article.
Next election is information that is not relevant on a page about the governor or list of governors, besides election date is same time every year. However, the article does mention when the current governor's term is up. Bgwhite (talk) 06:07, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

problem with colors in list of governors

Charlie Crist changed from Republican to Independent in April 2010, but the color indicates he changed to the Whig party. I can't figure out how to fix it so I'm leaving a note here.

Also the Red shading indicating Republican should take up 3/4 of the bar (2007-2008-2008), and the Grey shading indicating Independent should take up 1/4 of the bar (2010). Right now it is 50/50 and that is misleading. Again, I don't know how to fix this. Actually he was only Independent for about 9 months but 75/25 is better than 50/50 IMO.

JKshaw, I fixed Crist's color from the Whig party to independent. Thank you for bringing this up. The color of the bar is only to give a general idea and not to convey the actual time spent with one part or another. Same goes for Lt. Governors as well. Bgwhite (talk) 21:49, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Who'll be the 46th Governor?

Pending the results of the 2018 US Senate election, it's not completely clear who Scott's successor will be as governor. If he's elected senator, Scott will resign as governor on or before January 3, 2019. If he's not elected senator, Scott will serve out his second term as governor until January 9, 2019. Ooh, good point. Ok, compelling enough to remove '46' from DeSantis for now. In fact, that sounds reasonable for all governor-elects, since you can't be 100% sure they will be the next governor (unless, of course, it was the lt. gov elected) --Golbez (talk) 15:15, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Other offices, living govs

I kind of created these sections 15 years ago but yeah, they've been there a while and I can't certainly just nuke em. But they're not useful. Living governors is absolutely not useful, if someone cares it's a few clicks to figure it out; just because people care about this for other offices like US President doesn't mean there's some kind of long-standing tradition of caring how many governors of Florida yet live. And the other offices table is purely subjective as to what to include (the rules as established by me were 'federal legislative, cabinet, ambassador, or foreign') and, again, adds nothing to an understanding of this topic. Both add to the upkeep requirements of this article for no discernible benefit. It adds to an understanding of the individuals listed, but not this topic. Hi, Golbez. There is a request for comment going on at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Politics#Request_for_comment_on_the_contents_of_lists_of_officeholders. I hope you can contribute these arguments there. Nobody so far has made those! Funnily enough, I am kind of in the same boat with Template:Ahnentafel, which I spammed across Wikipedia in my early years only to now have to fight it. Oh, well.
