Reading this is just heart wrechning. I am not even catholic, but still... As if all the ills of the world are due the catholic church. I am sick of this line of reasoning. It gives almost everyone else a blessing, and of course, the only evil force in this world is the church. Eeeeeew.

"African slave trade" - yeah, as if the catholic church was the main perpertrator of this one! By the way, the african slave trade was more often than not carried out without any involvement of Europeans or Americans.

"The inactivity and silence of many Catholics during the Holocaust" - Good article on that: http://voxday.blogspot.com/2009/05/great-papal-smear.html

"Muslims slaughtered by the Crusaders" - as if that happened just out of nothing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_conquests

Who attacked who first?

"For the sins of Catholics throughout the ages for violating "the rights of ethnic groups and peoples, and [for showing] contempt for their cultures and religious traditions".

- Yes, as if the evil catholics were the first and only perpetrators of that one! I am sure pagan conquerors like the Romans, or Muslim or Protestant conquerors cared much about ethnic groups. I am sure the atheistic conquerors of the 20th century, like the Soviet Union or red China, cared much about that too! ("Sovietification", tibet policy).

"The injustices committed against women, the violation of women's rights and for the historical denigration of women"

YAWN! Yes, that's it! Only the church is guilty of that! This topic is a bit more complex anyway, I recommend "the myth of male power" by Warren Farell and "the manipulated man" by Esther Vilar.

I could go on and on, but I think I made my point clear enough now. Poor John Paul, I am sure he meant it well, but this is ridiculous.

If there are grammar and spelling issues: English is not my first language.

This is a pretty strange list. It is lacking the most basic information. For an apology to be a real apology you need to know (a) on whose behalf the apology is made [the Pope, the Magisterium, the Church, Christianity, God, ...] (b) what exactly the apology is for (c) who was wronged (d) who the apology is being made to. For a Wikipedia article like this you'd also expect a reliable reference giving the exact words. As far as I know, no pope has ever apologized for any acts committed by the papacy or the Catholic Church - they have only ever spouted ambiguous waffle. The five basic requirements are missing for every item on the list. Wojtyla was a liberal of partial Jewish ancestry and most likely an anti-Pope, the Second Vatican Council was a robber council.[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.126.221.170 (talk) 13:24, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure if I am doing this right but here goes. None of the four citations for this line: "Catholics' involvement with the African slave trade (9 August 1993)" contain any reference whatsoever to the African slave trade. Now here's my four tildas: Jack6128 (talk) 02:55, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm going to have to echo Jack6128's sentiment here. The citations do not correspond to the claims of the text. There needs to be some work in improving the citations, or changing the main text. Qed (talk) 16:07, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Generic citations which often don't mention the subject they're supposed to support. Working on it. Manannan67 (talk) 19:38, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
