Toby Turner Request

Hey. I think Toby Turner should be added in here, he is 72nd, sure, not too high up, but he is still in the top 100. He also co-starred in a movie, New Low, that was in the Sundance Selection of 2010. Just a thought. He also has a website, wherein he has a bio and a few other things. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.115.24.216 (talk) 12:51, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

The angry video game nerd

The Angry Video Game Nerd and/or Cinemassacre should be on the list. (James Rolfe) got his popularity in 2006 and has peaked around 2007 reaching at least the top ten most subscribed of all time. Currently his channel (Jamesnintendonerd) over 424,000 YouTube subscribers, he has 3 DVDs, merchandise ECT. His videos have been translated across the globe in Spanish, Japanese, Korean, ECT. The Angry Video Game nerd was the winner of Mashable Best Online Web Series 2009 on December 16th, 2009. He has been featured on Spike.com, Gametrailers.com, on CNN, on G4, and more.

None of what you said matters when considering him for inclusion in the list. We need references that show his notability. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 17:55, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

He's not really a YouTube guy. He does his videos on Gametrailers.com and on his site. He posts older episodes on his YouTube account--Starman15317 (talk) 04:05, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Not done: The person must be notable and be listed in publications. See notability guidelines. Please remember that a high number of views and/or subscribers is not a valid reason for inclusion on this list. Stickee (talk) 10:02, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
As well keep the discussion on him to the previous section. If you didn't see the a previous comment on James Rolfe, it was said that he didn't start out on YouTube. His videos were first on GameTrailers with his older episodes being uploaded to YouTube after that. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 14:38, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Megan and Liz

I checked the reference provided for them and it doesn't show them winning any award in any category. Plus "achieved some popularity on YouTube" doesn't make them notable. Popularity and notability are two different things. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 02:14, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Victor ?????

I think that Victor ????? (Gimmeabreakman / Gimmeaflakeman / maggiesensei [all the same person]) should be added to this list as I've noticed Hanna Minx is on there but has 3x less subscribers and they are both part of the j-vlog celeb status. I don't know his last name though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.198.92.21 (talk) 03:05, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 04:54, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Here are the sources: http://www.youtube.com/user/Gimmeabreakman http://www.youtube.com/user/Gimmeaflakeman http://www.youtube.com/user/gimmeabonedog

Those are the three that I know, however I misread his info and it turns out it's not 300,000+ subscribers, those were just channel views for one of his channels. The only other thing I can think is that he seems to be the ring-leader and helps organize the Youtube J-vBlog community. So as far as this edit is concerned, yes he's very famous in the Japanese vlogging community, but he's not as famous as hannah minx. My apologies.

All the sources you provided are from YouTube, subscribers and view counts do not assert notability. You need to provide article outsides of YouTube such as news articles. Kyle1278 00:57, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Edit request from Smileifulovemebaby, 2 October 2010

{{edit semi-protected}} I would like to suggest that either I, or someone else add three other major Youtube personalities.

1-Brentalfloss, known for writing lyrics and making videos to video game songs. Now featured on Screw Attack, and has released an album http://www.youtube.com/user/brentalfloss?feature=chclk 2- The Angry Video Game Nerd (The Angry Nintendo Nerd), aka James Rolfe. Reviews and critiques exceptionally old and bad games. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Angry_Video_Game_Nerd http://www.youtube.com/user/JamesNintendoNerd also on Screw Attack. 3- Mega64 (aka Rocco Botte Derrick Acosta Shawn Chatfield Garrett A. Hunter) known for making skits based on video games. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega64 http://www.youtube.com/user/roccob64?blend=1&ob=4 http://www.youtube.com/user/IGNentertainment?feature=chclk

Please consider adding these well known Youtube personalities to the list. Thanks!

Smileifulovemebaby (talk) 21:59, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

James Rolfe was not on YouTube first. The rest need references proving how they are notable. As well, there is no need to double post your request. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 00:10, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Not done: per above. Notability needs to be established first. Thanks, Stickee (talk) 03:23, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

UPDATE: Sorry I didn't mean to post it twice. Weren't the youtube, and wiki pages enough? Judging by the views, and the fact that two of them are on screw attack as well, I think that's saying enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smileifulovemebaby (talkcontribs) 18:29, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Anybody can have a YouTube channel or Wikipedia page. That doesn't make them notable. We need references showing their notability. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 14:05, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Alexis Jordan

I'm not sure if she should be put on the list. She was on America's Got Talent before she was on YouTube. So I'm iffy on keeping her on the list. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 23:19, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I'd say keep her on. She might have been on AGT first but she has gained notability only afterwards, when she was (re)discovered on YouTube. It would have been different if she had been notable before she was on YouTube but seeing as she wasn't, I think she belongs here. Regards SoWhy 14:53, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Kipkay

D':> where's Kipkay?

82.12.1.173 (talk) 15:43, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm unsure whether he fits on this list. It's for people who rose to prominence due to YouTube, not people who became prominent and then contributed to YouTube. Based on his article, I think one could argue that he rose to prominence on Metacafe and then moved to YouTube afterwards and thus he is not within the list's scope. But I'd like to hear what others think about it. Regards SoWhy 17:23, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Lily Allen

A comment to previous request: It's for people who rose to prominence due to YouTube. Well then, why isn't Lily Allen on this list? She's the first one that I heard of who got popular on Youtube and after got a recording deal. And I have understood that Kate Nash did the same thing, not sure though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.217.50.138 (talk) 22:23, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Damn it, it was MySpace, sorry! But then another question? Why there isn't same kind of list about MySpace? Aren't there enough of those or what? 85.217.50.138 (talk) 22:28, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
You will find that a lot of musicians got discovered on MySpace. Why don't you start a list like that and it will under the same standards as this list. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 16:46, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. I actually once suggested to broaden its scope, in my case to all internet video pages, but it wasn't successful, so I doubt this list can be changed to encompass notable MySpace artists. So if you can create one that applies the same standards as this one and which thus covers a notable topic, you should. The reason why this list is about YouTube only is because it's the most prominent page of its kind. Regards SoWhy 19:55, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Split List Into Alphabetical Sections

I was thinking it would be easier to split list into alphabetical sections so you don't have to go through the whole list to add someone but just edit a specific section. I am wanting to see what everyone else thinks. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 18:45, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

iJustine Reference

The reference for iJustine is not a suitable reference as it just links back to her website. Someone needs to rectify that or I will remove her entry once again. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 18:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

You do realize that she has an article? Why can't you just use one of the 60+ references there? Regards SoWhy 10:56, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
You do realize that the person who put her back could have done that...? If someone is going to take time to put her back, then they should take the time to get a reference. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 16:08, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
If you see a problem, you should fix it yourself if you can. The important thing is to keep this list as correct as possible, not to "punish" some user by removing an otherwise valid entry. She is notable, so removal should not be an option, even if the person who added her used a non-reliable reference. Regards SoWhy 09:29, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Alex Day, Tom Milsom, Edplant

I'd like to request that we add Alex Day (Nerimon) Tom Milsom (Hexachordal) and Edplant to this list. The three of them were interviewed twice by the Sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/music/3160028/Meet-internet-geeks-Sons-Of-Admirals.html and http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/bizsessions/3170083/Meet-the-Suns-of-Admirals.html) and also preformed four "bizsessions" with them (with Charlie Mcdonnell, who is already on this list). The four of them (Alex, Tom, Ed, and Charlie) have had a song played on the radio(a cover of Here Comes My Baby, a Cat Stevens song: http://sonsofadmirals.com/post/1254725876/whats-that-sons-of-admirals-on-the-radio) and have appeared on the 5:19 show put on by BBC switch (http://sonsofadmirals.com/post/1372818903/sons-of-admirals-on-the-5-19-show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrFqLz3n7wA). Currently (Dec. 23), Alex has 283,670 subscribers, Tom has 81,751, and Ed has 33,606. CitizenofPanem (talk) 03:39, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

You need an actual article on how they are notable. An interview doesn't necessarily do that. Linking to their official website isn't a good reference. Linking to YouTube isn't the first source you should use either. Finally, the number of subscribers they have doesn't equate notability. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 04:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Recommend

I recommend we should give a specific amount of channel views or subscribers so we can stop having dozens of add requests. Someone65 (talk) 09:00, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

That would be the opposite of what this list is for. A high number of views and/or subscribers does not merit inclusion in this list - coverage in reliable sources does. That means that it's perfectly possible that someone with a low number of views but coverage in such sources will be included per WP:N while someone with a high number and no coverage will not be. Ray William Johnson

Before making new requests to add Ray William Johnson, you may find it helpful to consider whether your request expands upon the previous requests. Remember:
  • You must demonstrate notability by showing significant coverage in one or more reliable sources.
  • A high number of views on YouTube does not count as sufficient reason to add Ray William Johnson.
  • The number of subscribers is also not sufficient reason to add Ray William Johnson.

Ray William Johnson and Dave Days. Why not?

How about Ray William Johnson? He's got one of the most viewed shows in YouTube. He uploads two new episodes each week and a great number of people watches them every day. I don't mean that he should be added to the list because of that, just because he is an actual good comedian and makes interesting videos and they are interactive with viewers.

I also think that Dave Days should be added to the list because he is a great musician in many different music styles as well as comedian, and he is one of the most subscribed musicians in YouTube.

Edit request to Include RWJ on this list: 30 November 2010

I research internet memes. I found it extremely odd he (RayWilliamJohnson) was not included here because his show is a source of memes online. There are a number of memes which trace back to Ray. Example source: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/two-camels-in-a-tiny-car

If the powers that govern this page continue to ignore the fact that this person is a major contributor to the language of the internet, it will run contrary to our goal of collectively keeping wikipedia a source for unbiased information. I believe in wikipedia, and that's why I contributing to this talk page. Add RWJ; it's long overdue.

As the blurb at the top of this page makes abundantly clear, you need WP:Reliable sources to include an entry. (Self-published sources don't qualify). OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:17, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

RWJ's page?

Why doesn't RWJ have a Wikipedia page? He certainly deserves it. You want verification? Go here: http://www.youtube.com/user/RayWilliamJohnson, click any of of his videos, and read any one of the thousands of comments posted on each one. Or look at the millions of views he has, and millions of subscribers he has. I think being a massively popular celebrity, even if he's only an interweb celeb, definitely constitutes his own page. In addition, many other less viewed YouTube personalities have their own pages, as you can see by looking down this list at the blue names. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ErichSturmovik (talkcontribs) 21:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

If you not going to read passed posts don't leave a comment. The amount of viewers, subscribers, and video views on YouTube dose not establish notability this has been stated multiple times. You need provide outside sources such as news articles about him, and also finding articles that only mentions him once or is about a broader subject and mentions him dose not help establish notability. Please read Wikipedia:Notability. Kyle1278 23:20, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Ray William Johnson inclusion

Based off the above posts and the current status of RWJ's inclusion in the article, I think it is safe to say that there is not consensus among the Wikipedia editors concerning RWJ. On two separate occasions I have edited the article to include RWJ, and both those edits have been deleted. I understand the current inclusion rule: "showing significant coverage in one or more reliable sources", however given the large support for RWJ's inclusion based off the above postings, I think we as a community can and should come together and be reasonable to achieve consensus. I think RWJ's inclusion is highly appropriate in "List of YouTube personalities" given the large amount of media mentioning as given by the above postings, and while RWJ may not currently have an exclusively RWJ-centered reference outside YouTube, I think it is reasonable to include him, if he is given enough reliable sources.

For those who do not feel this is adequate enough for inclusion, perhaps we all could reach a compromise and include a "[importance?]" in RWJ's entry. --Chiefmartinez (talk) 05:41, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
