FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships[edit]

Even though this article is explicitly about medalists at the FINA World Aquatics Championships, would it be desirable to add the medalists of the six separately held FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships (now discontinued) to the present article? Given that it was held six times, with no less than six events per time, and no less than three medallists per event (I.e., 108 names, and actually a few more due to the team events in the early ones), that would be better as its own stand-alone list. Courcelles 17:39, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick response. I agree that the size in itself warrants a separate article. But now I look at it more carefully, FINA considers both versions of the World Championships basically equivalent in their overview (http://www.fina.org/project/docs/histoFina/HistoFINA_X.pdf), listing them together, and providing statistics for all tournaments combined. In fact, the only practical difference is that in some years, there were pool swimming, diving etc events in a city nearby. For some reason, they wanted to hold the open water championships more often than the other Aquatics events, hence the extra tournaments. In view of this, wouldn't it more logical to add them to this article, so readers can compare them better? There is a precedent, the European Sprint Swimming medalists are included in the Short Course medalists lists (e.g. List of European Short Course Swimming Championships medalists (men)). I should add, even when combining them, the article size would still be 2-3 times shorter than the other swimming medalists articles. Gap9551 (talk) 18:49, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
