Common names[edit]

Adding the common names to this list would be more than a little useful... Grutness...wha? 08:46, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well: feel free to do so! Ruigeroeland (talk) 09:29, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If I knew what the common names were I would have. In the end I had to check 40 links on this page to find the moth I was looking for! It's a task for someone who knows about moths - not for someone who's simply trying to find a specific moth. Yet it's people who are trying to find a specific moth who are disadvantaged by the lack of this specific information. I've filled in a few, but most of the articles don't list the common names 9and a lot of the articles have dead links as their only references). This is work for someone who knows moths. Okay. I've added all I can from the individual article pages. But not it will need someone who actually knows about moths to double-check which common name is known for these moths in New Zealand and also to add in any other common names. That is not a job for someone who knows very little about moths - it requires a lepidopterist. Grutness...wha? 01:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome job! I have no source for common names at this time I'm afraid. I think the approach you used is the only way to go at this moment. At this time, I am working on African butterflies, but I will help out making new species pages later on, and will add common names as I move along. Cheers and thanks for the work! Argyresthia eugeniella[edit]

I can't find any supporting citation to suggest that this species is in New Zealand. The wikipedia article relating to this species relied on two citations that actually referred to the species Coscinoptycha improbana Meyrick 1881. Both species are known by the common name "Guava Moth" and this may have lead to the confusion. I've checked the Landcare Research New Zealand Ltd site as well as searched for supporting literature in Google scholar but can't find any mention of Argyresthia eugeniella being present in New Zealand. I've therefore edited the Argyresthia eugeniella article and would suggest that unless other Editors have more luck than me, this species be removed from this list.Ambrosia10 (talk) 06:16, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect you are right. If there's no objection after a couple of days, go ahead and remove it.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  06:24, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Have removed Argyresthia eugeniella (guava moth) Busck, 1917 from the list but if any editors believe this is in error please feel free to revert this edit. --Ambrosia10 (talk) 18:56, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
