Title.[edit]

If Yen Press is releasing under the title Higurashi When They Cry, why isn't the main article still Higurashi no Naku Koro ni? Even in this article, it has [[Higurashi no Naku Koro ni|Higurashi When They Cry]] knowing that the main article is in the original title. --staka (TC) 18:04, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The main article is primarily about the games, which go under the title Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Since this article is about the manga, the licensed title should be used.-- 23:53, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These were comic anthologies, and I was unsure on whether they should be added or not in this article.-- 03:23, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since this article is about manga chapter, I think it is the appropriate place to mention it. If not, they should be mentioned in the main article, at least.
I wonder how many books are they?60.50.14.51 (talk) 17:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Release date for Minagoroshi hen[edit]

I just realized this article wrongly stated the first volume of Minagoroshi hen had been released on December 22, 2008. I have the book myself and am sure it first came out one month later. I suspect the same is true for Matsuribayashi hen but, since I haven`t bought myself a copy yet, I cannot prove it. If for some reason I am wrong (ISBN numbers match and 書版発行 is listed as 2009年1月22日) then by all means feel free to revert my edits. -- 58.89.207.205 (talk) 20:16, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Written by Ryukishi07[edit]

This has been bugging me for a while... The article says that the manga is written by Ryukishi07, but based on what's said in the manga itself and his interview with Yen Plus in the December 2008 issue, it is pretty clear that the only thing he does is supervise the project. How the story is told is all up to the mangaka and it looks like Ryukishi is fine with it as long as it doesn't contradict the original. Same thing for the Umineko manga article, by the way. --Orophin89 16:20, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arc order[edit]

How about we change the order the arcs are presented in the article so that they match Yen Press' releases? The Japanese manga never had a proper reading order anyway, and with YP deciding to release Yoigoishi-hen after Himatsubushi-hen, I think it would be more convenient to rearrange them. --Orophin89 16:20, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; I'll change it up to the ones we know Yen Press are releasing.-- 23:54, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vol 14 review[edit]

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/higurashi/when-they-cry/gn-14

The final volume of the first of Higurashi: When They Cry's answer arcs is a heart-wrenching, gut-churning compilation of images that will remain burned into your eyes long after the final page is turned. As promised, Ryukishi07 does answer the central questions posed in the companion “Cotton Drifting Arc” (volumes three and four of the greater series), but not the main mystery behind the entire series of Hinamizawa murders. We have a few more pieces of the puzzle, but the true answer is still waiting ahead.
...Houjyou's art, still at its finest when depicting the frightening or the grotesque, takes on the flavor of traditional Japanese horror this time, with snake-necked women and reptilian eyes being the order of the day. Several scenes in the Rika sequence also call to mind the “slit-mouthed woman” of Japanese urban horror, and those familiar with that legend will recall that she kills you, no matter how you answer her questions. Houjyou's comfort level with depicting scenes of torture, specifically of little girls, makes this volume more gruesome than previous entries in the series, including earlier volumes in this arc. This is not a book to read over dinner or before bed, and a few of the torture scenes will be too graphic for some readers. While it is not, perhaps, deserving of an “M” rating, it certainly lives up to the “OT” one, and even if you have been comfortable with the level of gore in the series so far, this may make you uncomfortable. Going into it aware of what's ahead will be helpful for younger or squeamish readers. Houjyou is capable of making nightmares live on the page.
...suffice it to say that various pieces of information that were not in the anime are given, making this a sound investment even for those who have already watched this arc. (New, unlicensed territory will begin with series volume 19.)

...With the conclusion of the Eye-Opening Arc, Ryukishi07 brings us some answers, though not to the most important questions. As more pieces of the puzzle are put into place, the larger picture becomes just a little bit clearer. While there is a definite ending, it is far from a happy one, and you may be left feeling just a little bit empty as you hold the detritus of wasted lives, nearly weightless, in your hands.

Other Books...[edit]

Is there any official word on what these four chapters (published by Ichijinsha) are? I haven't found much, but they are labeled as chapters/arcs and were written by Ryukishi07. Should they been considered within party of the main continuity, like the Kadokawa Shoten and Square Enix titles are, or something different (akin to the anthology doujin release)? There's also this Takeshobo 2-volume Higurashi series, also written by Ryukishi 07. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:22, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
