This band labels themselves as "Crack Rock Steady." Why is it that whenever somebody changes their genre to this correct one it gets removed? First Names[edit]

I just want to throw in my two cents about first names. It is my understanding that, possibly excluding Brad Logan, the members of this band (and the related bands) go by their first names almost exclusively. Their albums credit them in this fashion and when last names are included, sometimes they are fake. "Kire" and "Baille" and so forth really don't make sense in this context, becuase as performers (and I assume to some extent in real life) they don't go by their last names at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheeser1 (talk • contribs) 22:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banned[edit]

They were banned because there was a huge fire at the venue that killed alot of people and they threatened a deadly fireworks display there..

"It was right after this band in North Island wich is right near new york state and they burned down the club, and a bunch of people died. And all the firemen in America made stricter fire codes for all the clubs. We played in that club in new york city a month after. And I put out a flyer that we would have a fireworks display(laughs) which made a lot of fire. And someone gave a flyer of the show to fireman, he gave it to the firechief of new york and they all came down to the show and basically there’s way to many people for the legal capacity. And they shut down the show right before we played, and they shut down the club for 2 weeks. So everyone in new york city looked at that as an excuse not to book us anymore because we’ll get your club shut down."

The quote doesn't say they burned down the club, rather it was right after this fire. And it's referring to a show in Brooklyn not at ABCNoRio. Throughout the '90s, Choking Victim was banned from ABC repeatedly for the behavior of the band and its members - in spite of their being a "hometown band" for the other squats in the area. Amongst other (possibly worse) incidents, Choking Victim's disabling (via sugar in the gas tank) of Huasipungo's (a band made up of ABC über-volunteers) tour van in Berkley (circa 1997) probably didn't help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.172.230.96 (talk • contribs) 02:14, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of the genre Punk Rock[edit]

Removal of this genre is highly dubious, and is based on an unfounded WP:OR assertion that, allegedly, death metal cannot influence a punk band. This reversion absurdity should stop, but hasn't, due to an editor's insistence that the obviously relevant genre be removed. To repeat: the assertion that this band does not play punk rock on the basis that they are influenced by death metal is absurd, unfounded, and goes against a claim that is not only obvious, but now sourced. Refusal to discuss this matter and continuing to edit the article based solely on your misinformed conclusions about music genres should stop. If it matters, i think that it is ridiculous to exclude them from the punk rock genre just because they were influenced by death metal. They don't sound just like every other punk band, which is a great thing. If "fresh fruit" came out today a lot of people wouldn't consider it punk but rather "alternative". a band doesn't have to sound just like Minor Threat to be a punk band.--Iron bob 19:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]


it clearly states on their myspace (which is managed by the band themselves) that they classify themselves as punk/ska/death metal. also, it is quite ignorant to assume just because the two genres have always had friction that an artist cannot be a fan of both. although I am more partial to punk, I listen to (and have good friends who listen to) death/heavy/black metal. this rivalry of genres is simply the exageration of a feud that took place almost 30 years ago. multiple genres borrow from both sounds also. almost all forms of thrash borrow heavily from said music and therefore the 2 sounds can (to an extent) can impact eachother. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.205.251 (talk) 02:46, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gay rude boys unite & operation ivy[edit]

My edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Left%C3%B6ver_Crack&diff=146428402&oldid=146152763 was removed quite quickly, and fair enough since it wasn't sourced. However, I'll try to lay out some justification here. Firstly, the at the start the riffs and timing are almost identical to Yelling in my ear my Operation Ivy. Lyrics below: 

never had a reason for the attack
it's impulsive and insane
when I wanna talk sense to you
it's like spitting back at rain
I've come to know that when i first saw you
I should have ran away
I've kicked myself a thousand times
but now its too late
yelling in my ear you try to control me
you look but you don't see
yelling in my ear
you got a big mouth are you ever gonna get a clue
youre loud obnoxious when youre gone I still hear you
always spewing shit with you irritating voice
I dont wanna listen but I got no choice
quit acting like youre nuts, just shut the hell up

The song is obviously about authority, and in particular authority in education (ie teachers). Very near the start of Gay rude boys unite there's the group of lines 'You may be ignorant from a lack of education/but if it's sympathy you seek/you better tune to another station'. This song is on the album Mediocre Generica, which came just after Leftover Crack had left Hellcat Records, run by Tim Armstrong, who signed Buju Banton, a self confessed homophobe (having performed the song Boom Bye Bye calling for the murder of homosexuals). Having not only signed Banton, Tim Armstrong went on to perform versions of some of his songs live.

Futhermore, it's obvious from other songs that Leftover Crack have something of a feud with Tim Armstrong. For example, in the later Clear Channel (Fuck off!) there's the group of lines 'The sovereign insincerity/the monopoly of greed/Nickleback, P.O.D., Rancid, Britany and Creed', where Rancid (a later band with Tim Armstrong as frontman) is grouped unfavourably. While this evidence may not fully justify my edit I think it puts in to question the wording 'seems to borrow some stylistic elements from Operation Ivy'. --Grimboy 12:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't talk down to me. I wasn't necessarily suggesting fully incorporating my previous edit as I mentioned previously. Anyway, I looked through a bunch of interviews with the band. I'm not talking down to you, I'm citing policy, in a civil and straightforward manner. Please assume good faith. As far as I can tell, that interview briefly mentions some issues about creative control on Hellcat. Nothing about Operation Ivy, nothing about homophobia, nothing abut Buju Banton, nothing about Tim Armstrong. Okay, I'm sorry. Anyway, here's the relevant section from the interview (emphasis mine):

Interviewer: Speaking of Hellcat, I don't mean to keep bringing it up but this is my first chance to talk with you guys, I've read that the song "Gay Rude Boys Unite" was, in part, a reaction to Hellcat releasing or signing homophobic artists or content. Is there any truth to that?

Stza: Yeah, I mean it was a combination of a lot of things but pretty much all of them had to do with Hellcat. At the time I was at Tim Armstrong's house for some reason, I stayed there one night or two, I was homeless. He begrudgingly let me stay over and soil his nice place. Anyways, Buju Banton's (look up)manager was there. She's this girl, I don't know where she's from, I assume she's from Jamaca because that's where he lives. And Buju Banton is famous for being homophobic and I was asking her about that, like what's up with that? She was like, Shaba Ranks (who's a huge reggae and dancehall artist) he apologized for being homophobic and she thought I was homophobic, apparently. She's like, "But Buju Banton, he never apologized". I was like, "Oh yeah, right". Like, she wanted me to give her a high five or something. So Tim really wanted Buju Banton to be on Hellcat. Epitaph kind of ended up stealing him for Anti Records. There were a couple of other bands on Hellcat with questionable lyrics. So, I kinda took a bunch of stuff, I took a lot of Op Ivy references and put them into the song and the music is kind of the same thing as "Yelling in my Ear". I was kinda poking fun at him at the time, like we weren't enemies (this is before we had any problems with the artwork) but I was just really disappointed with what I was seeing at the label in general. This kind of sexist punk attitude that Rancid and Lars and the Bastards kind of propagate.

Note that Tim Armstrong is a member of Rancid and writes for Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards. Now that we have a source, we can introduce some of this into the article - I would not go so far as to say "Tim Armstrong is accused of homophobia" - he wasn't, not exactly. Buju Banton was. Anti-breeding[edit]

Someone keeps removing anti-breeding from the list of many "antis" describing Leftöver Crack's music. Most recently Cheeser1 with the comment "that's not much of a political stance, just a lyric taken out of context". Opposing human reproduction is a valid political stance.
