Under Active Development[edit]
This article is actively being developed. It was the first such article attempted by the author and I have already contacted her and explained some of our editing guidelines. Please allow a reasonable period to bring the article up to standards. Thanks! JodyB talk 12:28, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
- Active development or not, it is never acceptable to add copyrighted material to a Wikipedia article. The initial version of this page was substantially copied from http://www.senatorlaurawoods.com/about-me/, and flagged as such by CorenSearchBot. I removed that content with this edit, and it was then restored to the page by JodyB with this one. That is against our copyright policy, and quite unacceptable. I've now blanked the page and listed it at WP:copyright problems for processing. That usually takes a week or two; the page should not be edited in the meanwhile, though anyone is welcome to start on a rewrite. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:58, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- You failed to carefully inspect what happened. The article was restored by me and immediatly was cleaned up and sourced. Please note all the edits made immediately after a reloaded it. It was not left in the copyvio state. It's easy to blank an article but takes a few minutes to clean it up. I believe you should have looked closer. JodyB talk 22:03, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- I've made two mistakes here, but I don't believe not looking was one of them. I should have left a {{cclean}} notice here on the talk page, and I should have requested rev-deletion of the earlier part of the history to prevent the earlier versions from being restored; I apologise for not having done those two things. I did however check this tool, which shows that there is still considerable overlap between the source and our page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:30, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Correct me if I am wrong, I am new to publishing on Wikipedia; however, I believe that the biographical information listed in publication of this page is in the public domain. To quote the page Wikipedia:Public domain, "In short: Bare facts are in the public domain. Works must show sufficient human creativity to be eligible for copyright at all."[1] The information in this article is purely biographical and serves to provide the public with factual information about the background of an elected official. - Hello, BpetrichCO. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. If you look further in the page you quote, the example given is a telephone book. The courts have made clear that the threshold of creativity is deliberately very low. That said, the biography certainly could be in the public domain or compatibly licensed, if the original author is willing to release it into the public domain or compatibly license it. All that's needed is a statement on that page. :) I'll drop by your talk page with a little more explanation. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:39, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
