I have Dark and Grey on my shelves, and have downloaded the two articles you mention. I'll peruse and ponder. Meanwhile I am sternly resisting the urge, given the location of the premiere, to point out, irrelevantly, that Donizetti wrote an opera called Emilia di Liverpool.
