Surmic is not Nilotic[edit]

Today I had to correct an edit claiming the Kwegu to be a Nilotic group. Linguistically, Kwegu is a Southeast Surmic group, and as such they are on a different Branch of Eastern Sudanic languages than the Nilotic languages. So any relationship between Surmic and Nilotic groups is is going way back, and should not be dwelled on in such an article. It's like claiming Swedish is related to Romance languages. Not entirely wrong, but also certainly not true. Landroving Linguist (talk) 08:15, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is really great. Thank you for your comment. Would you please edit on the article. [[user: Temechegn.bira/Temechegn.bira]] or [[user talk: Temechegn.bira/talk]] (talk) 14:36, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your approval! Please note that I made that edit almost ten years ago. Beyond their classification as Surmic, I know almost nothing about the Kwegu, so there wasn't much for me to add. Thanks for your great additions to the article! Now it really has some substance. LandLing 15:29, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

The result of this discussion was merge. LandLing 10:17, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These two articles Kwegu people and Kwegu People seem to be about the same thing with different capitalisation.— Rod talk 08:37, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agree: Apparently the recent editor didn't know about the capitalization rules of Wikipedia. This version here is more recently edited (today), and also fits the rules better than Kwegu People, so if User:Temechegn.bira agrees, the other page could just be deleted, and we stick to this one here. I agree but don't know how to merge [[user: Temechegn.bira/Temechegn.bira]] or [[user talk: Temechegn.bira/talk]] (talk) 14:33, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can do it. Please confirm that all information that is on Kwegu People that you want to copy over to this page is already here - I think it is, as this is what you have probably done yesterday, but it is good to be sure. Then I can set the redirect. Probably I won't get to it before tomorrow. LandLing 15:39, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like we won't get more people to contribute to this merger discussion, and Temechgn didn't voice any objections, although we already had some interaction elsewhere since my last edit here. Therefore I will replace the content of Kwegu People with a redirect marker. LandLing 10:12, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
