Kokomo Indiana

I removed this from the article:

Some reports state that the authors of the song did not know there was an actual town in Indiana called Kokomo; they said at the time that they thought they had made it up because it sounded "exotic;" other reports said they thought it was the name of a bar in Montego Bay, Jamaica (while it is in fact the name of an island in Montego Bay). However, other reports have indicated that the band was familiar with the name of the town prior to recording the song, because they had previously recorded television commercials for Delco Bose sound systems, and Delco's headquarters were located in Kokomo, Indiana. Regardless, upon the release of the song, residents and city officials expressed great amusement, as illustrated on a number of features run on state and local television news.

It really does not matter what the band thought of the name; the song was orignally written as Kokomo by John Phillips and Scott McKensie and was performed in public (including on the Howard Stern show) before the Beach Boys ever got a hold of it. Love and Johnston's writing credits were only for minor adjustments after the song was pretty well finished. So the fact that The Beach Boys recorded commercials for Delco, or had the Kokomo, Indiana cheerleaders perform for them does not really matter. MookieZ 15:58, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

70.151.71.66 Claiming to be Bruce Johnston

I doubt the addtions from the i.p. address 70.151.71.66 that states it is from the real Bruce Johsnton is really Johnston. The IP orginates in Philadelphia. I think Johnston lives in Los Angeles.

Also, if you look at the other contributions from 70.151.71.66, they do not add information to other Bruce Johnston related sites; such as any Beach Boys site, David Cassidy and Captain & Tennille.Docob5 (talk) 15:17, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

On the other hand, the other contributions are all old, so it could be someone else using the same IP.

The info seems plausible enough, but without confirmation it can't be considered a reliable source. And obviously we don't want to leave a note "written by me, Bruce Johnston" in the article at any rate. Anyone have any way to confirm/deny either the info or the source? Does Johnston have an official site or other confirmed web presence? Brettalan (talk) 01:55, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Good point about the IP. I looked for an official site and the only one's I could find are through the Beach Boys band: http://www.beachboysband.net/. (Also, went back to sign post from yesterday, but the date was inserted for today-not sure how to correct).Docob5 (talk) 15:17, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
