History of the hydro scheme.[edit]

According to a display in the visitors centre (about 1995) the scheme generated so much electricity that the village was given electric street lighting and became the first location in the UK to have such light; also the villagers were given a free electricity supply, at 400 volts DC(!). Anyone out there able to reference this? Springnuts 21:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Corporal James Hendry - Item incorrectly attributed to Kinlochleven. Pertains to the Lochaber Smelter Fort William which was The North British Aluminium Co Ltd at the time of the incident.--83.71.2.202 (talk) 05:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Link Spam[edit]

A link promoting any company, organization, or website is link spam. The link to the Ice Factor is promotional. Best removed by its creator. --83.71.2.202 (talk) 05:49, 28 May 2008 (UTC) I would disagree - I have no links to the Ice Factor but it is one of the main attractions in the area and may well be the reason people are visiting this page.161.12.7.4 (talk) 09:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Corporal James Hendry[edit]

This paragraph should be removed as inaccurrate.

During the Second World War Corporal James Hendry, a Canadian serviceman, won the George Cross for the heroism he displayed during a fire and subsequent explosion at a powder house used for building of the tunnel which brings water to the plant.
Corporal James Hendry was killed in a fire in the explosive store near Loch Laggan whilst working on the tunnel from Loch Spey to Loch Laggan which is part of the Lochaber hydro electric scheme that powers the Fort William smelter, nothing to do with Kinlochleven. There is a monument to him on the shore of Loch Laggan near where he was killed. He was awarded a posthumous GC. I will correct the entry under his name. --jmb (talk) 13:00, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
