Article Update

Some expert (someone capable) on this subject should update this article. Kendrick Lamar's album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City has already been released, but much of this article fails to reflect this reality. The Kendrick Lamar Album has made a 4 year hit in the country within the last decade.

The phrase towards the end about 2pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, and Eminem being his favorite rappers should have the line following reworded — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jglronan (talkcontribs) 06:19, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Kendrick had a dream

Kendrick has stated in interviews that he believes he was visited by one of his favorite rappers, Tupac Shakur in a dream. I think that should be included in the "Influences" section of this article. Here is a detailed article on his premonition: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.15954/title.kendrick-lamar-recalls-having-a-vision-of-tupac-shakur-in-his-sleep HipHopDoc (talk) 23:06, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Huge controversy in Big Sean song

A few days ago Big Sean released a new song titled "Control" which features Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. In Kendrick Lamar's verse he caused controversy because he took shots at Drake, J. Cole, Wale, Big K.R.I.T., Pusha T, ASAP Rocky, Mac Miller and Tyler the Creator. This has been one of the biggest hip-hop controversies in a while and should be added to his page. You can hear the song here: [1] (Explicit content, be warned.) Mage505 (talk) 15:32, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

There is an entry at the 2013 in hip hop music page about this, but if he a feud starts between him and someone with diss tracks being released then a section on here would be appropriate. STATic message me! 17:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Intro Suggestion

Would the following be better represented by the suggested that follows:

'Lamar first began to gain major attention in 2010, after the release of his fourth mixtape Overly Dedicated. The next year, he released Section.80, his first independent album to critical acclaim; released exclusively through iTunes and instantly ranked as one of the top digital hip hop releases of the year.[5] Early in his career, before releasing his major label debut, Lamar amassed a large internet following, and had already worked with Dr. Dre, Game, Drake, Young Jeezy, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, E-40, Warren G and Lil Wayne, among other popular artists. Lamar also received a total of seven Grammy nominations for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards (2014), including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Best Rap Song.'

REPLACEMENT:

Lamar found major industry attention following the release in 2010 of his fourth mixtape, Over Dedicated.

note: since it brought, to his attention, an major industry person that wanted to work with him.

REPLACEMANT:

Section 80 (YEAR) followed with critical acclaim; his debut independent album that was released exclusively through iTunes and immediately ranked within the top digital hip hop releases of that year.[5]

REPLACEMENT SUGGESTION:

Despite not having a major label debut release until (ALBUM) (YEAR), Lamar had a significant internet following and had worked with major industry leaders: Dr. Dre, Game, Drake, Young Jeezy, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, E-40, Warren G and Lil Wayne.

Leave what follows as is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.88.72 (talk) 23:07, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Addition to Life and Career Section

On December 16th 2014 Kendrick Lamar appeared on the Colbert Report as the show's last musical guest and debuted an untitled song from his upcoming album.

That's why it says 2014-present. An album can come in 2015, and it doesn't need to be changed. And all it said was he claimed to be an album out. Not that it released at that time. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 04:30, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Please include this sentence after "On January 26, 2013, Lamar performed the album's lead singles "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice" on Saturday Night Live. He also appeared alongside host Adam Levine and The Lonely Island on an SNL Digital Short; which spawned the single "YOLO"": Kendrick subsequently uploaded a standalone video of one of his characters from the music video, "Uncle Beez Wax,"on Top Dawg Entertainment's YouTube channel. Why? Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 02:16, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Copied from my talk page and reactiving edit request (no comment on the request I just don't have time to go through this
Callanec, I believe this addition: 1) Establishes Kendrick's connection to the TDE YouTube page, 2) highlights Kendrick's acting abilities, and 3) provides further information on the character he portayed.
If someone would be able to handle this request, that'd be great. Thanks, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:15, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
I guess I'm still not seeing the importance of this. To answer your specific points: 1) This article does a pretty good job of showing Kendrick's connection to TDE. Why does it need to specifically show his connection to TDE's YouTube channel? 2) I don't know that a 45-second video of him shuffling around and throwing his voice is really a good sample of his acting talent. 3) That character was in the YOLO video for about one second and didn't say a word.
The important event was that he appeared on SNL, and that is covered in the article. I think adding this to the article is emphasizing that performance a bit too much. Not done for now: but I will keep an eye on this page if you would like to respond, and you are of course welcome to contact me on my talk page. Thanks, --ElHef (Meep?) 14:19, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Kendrick Lamar's tribute to Method Man and ODB

Kendrick Lamar's November 2014 SNL performance also paid homage to the Ol' Dirty Bastard (it was for both ODB and Method Man) as well since it was the 10th anniversary of ODB's death night of the performance. In an interview with MTV RZA states : “Yeah I did catch that,” RZA said when asked about Kendrick’s performance and apparent tribute. “It was Dirty’s birthday and the anniversary of Tical. We celebrated in L.A., we had a kung-fu night at a movie theatre. We showed 5 Deadly Venoms and we had a special ODB cake made.”

“As we sitting there with the cake, one of the writers came over and showed the Kendrick thing,” he continued. “He just said to me, ‘Yo I feel like Kendrick is showing respect to Dirty right now, do you see this?’ I looked at it and I was like, ‘Wow, that looks like respect to me too. So, respect.

Duckworth family tree

My name is Connie Alston. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am the granddaughter of Savannah (Duckworth) Payne, and she is the daughter of John & Emma Duckworth from Tennessee. I created a page on facebook called "DUCKWORTH FAMILY TREE", solely for the purpose of uniting our Duckworth family & knowing who our relatives are. Could you please let me know who your mother, father, & grandparents are so that we can determine if you are a relative of the Duckworth family. I would appreciate it very much if you could respond to me since we are in the process of writing a biography of our family. I am on facebook as Connie Alston & my e-mail address is msconn408@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you. It would be great to have you as a part of our wonderful family. November15 3014 performance

Kendrick Lamar was paying respect to the late great ODB (Old Dirty Bastard) at his performance on SNL by wearing those all black contacts and partly braided hair, similar to how ODB wore his hair. Kendrick Lamar has been releasing the best quality music for the last 5 years up to now in this era/generation of hip-hop with modern classics such as good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp A Butterfly and highly acclaimed projects such as section.80 and Overly Dedicated. As far as the influence Kendrick Lamar has on Hip Hop or recording artist in general. Why does there absolutely have to be a source or text from a well established publication? People who are fans of music and Kendrick Lamar should be able to express what artists he has influenced over the years. Not everything has to be said by a recording artist or a writer for a magazine to justify how influential he has been within his career. It's important that the fans of Kendrick Lamar have some input on this particular topic of his impact on other artist music and/or content. So, with that being said it is obvious that there are many other artist not listed as being influenced by Kendrick Lamar. I would like to help with that list without any sources to provide because these sources aren't just made for only one career. Here are some artist that weren't listed the his page. Hi there. A user going by the name Nguyen0409 was blocked indefinitely due to the abusive use of multiple accounts. They used a sockpuppet named ADTN1210 to vandalize the Wikipedia page of rapper 'Kendrick Lamar' and wrongly removed a sentence in the introduction which read "Kendrick Lamar is regarded as one of the greatest rappers and lyricists of all time". The user said that "no source indicates that he is one of the greatest of all time" This is very incorrect as many sources agree that he is and he is widely regarded by many as one of the greatest of all time. Since the user has been blocked, the part of the Wikipedia page that was removed has not been added back. Could you please edit the page to add back what it originally said. Thank you. JadedJack779 (talk) 00:17, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Not done: Even if the user who removed this is a sockpuppet, the removal seems correct because such a subjective statement, especially one which makes such a bold statement (that this is "one of the greatest rappers and lyricists of all time") would require multiple, high-quality sources describing him as such, and you have not provided any. However, on Sean's latest studio album Detroit 2, he references squashing the beef with Kendrick on the song Deep Reverence. He states 'After what happened to Nipsey, I reached out to Kendrick; there wasn't even no real issues there to begin with.' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.103.183.121 (talk) 22:42, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Total record sales are false

The paragraph below is false.

"Lamar has certified sales of over 70 million records in the United States alone, and all of his albums have been certified platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)."

If you go to the source website, and add his record and single sales they add up to: 7.5 million RECORD sales and 46 million SINGLE sales. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.248.51.105 (talk) 19:45, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done: These are unknown to the common people, and by reliable sources refer to him by his name. This would just fluff up names by too much, especially for only a little. Callmemirela 🍁 14:14, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Man-Man should at least be included as he is referred to as that in some of his songs and the origin of the nickname could be added to his Early Life section, that way, people will understand where Man-Man comes from ItsJulTheJ (talk) 03:18, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
