°she is an awsome dancer!

Image gallery[edit]

Bold text38 photos is not even enough! I'm baffled as to why there must be an extensive image gallery of 38 photos for this person. The fair use images (I assume) should contribute significantly to the subject and be of encyclopedic value. In this case, these all appear to be publicity and vanity photos whose purpose (to me, at least) seems to be to create eye candy. Multiple photos of her attending a charity event and a dancing event, professional photo shoots, and backstage photos do not necessarily demonstrate encyclopedic worthiness, and as more images are added, they tend to cheapen the encyclopedic value of those images as a whole. Wikipedia is not a repository of images, and 38 images of a person in a Wikipedia article in this manner is really excessive.

I will be proposing most of the images in the gallery for deletion. I only find Image:Mariolopez & karina.jpg to be potentially encylopedic, as she is most known for dancing with Mario Lopez, although I'm not particularly fond of that image demonstrating a dance. If it can be proven that the other images are encyclopedic, I will see if we can come to a consensus. Tinlinkin 03:50, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The images have been proposed for deletion at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 November 28#Image:Karina Smirnoff.Fashion1.jpg. Tinlinkin 06:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for paring down the gallery. I still may not agree that the 3 images that were kept demonstrate a biographical importance with Karina Smirnoff, but I withdrew the nominations for them. Tinlinkin 07:01, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

moved from article page[edit]

Please include informtion on what age she started dancing at. Which all schools she attended. The names of her teachers. Tips from her for new dancers and how to jump so high in heels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.117.57.157 (talkcontribs)

Puzzled?[edit]

I got here from the Bronx High School of Science page. Two questions:

1. Why is the image listed for speedy deletion?

2. Why is her birthplace listed as Soviet Union rather than Ukraine? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bellagio99 (talkcontribs) 00:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC) 3. Why is her father listed simply as Jewish? Jewish is not a country. Is he Russian also? Come on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.104.189.18 (talk) 18:20, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can't answer your first question but can answer #2 and 3.
  • Ukraine was not an independent country (it was part of the Soviet Union) when Ms. Smirnoff was born and and wikipolicy is to mention the country people where born in.
  • "Jewish" was listened in the the Soviet Union as a "nationality" in peoples passports (just as "Ukrainian" or "Russian", you could register yourself as "Ukrainian" if you lived outside Ukraine in let's say Moscow); for some reason some people in Eastern Europe continue this practice informally (Ms. Smirnoff seems to do it herself on her website, if her mother was born in Kharkiv), I do not agree whit that myself by the way. — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 17:07, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

American naturalization[edit]

I tagged assertions of American citizenship. References are required to show US naturalization - some US immigrants never get naturalized so can't presume anything. Citizenship requirements for competitions would be sufficient if they show this and those requirements are referenced. --Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:12, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Dancing with the Stars - Professional Bio - Karina Smirnoff". 2011. Archived from the original on November 23, 2011. states "Nationality: Ukranian" - so she does not have American citizenship. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:30, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality in lead[edit]

Does she hold American citizenship? Reliable sources? This would effect the lead sentence, info box, and categories at the bottom of the article. Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 22:25, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
