With all due respect...[edit]

Wikipedia isn't a place to pay tribute to celebrities as much as they deserve it. Lines like: "He is best known as a legend in Hindi cinema. He has made a great contribution to the Hindi film industry and Bollywood." Are best removed from this article IMO. 122.163.23.174 (talk) 05:01, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 9 February 2013[edit]

In the following clip from Youtube: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Cxy1bpSwo), Kader Khan mentions he was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Place of birth needs to be amended to Kabul, Afghanistan. Thank you

Not done YouTube is not a reliable source and therefor will not be used. Camyoung54 talk 20:50, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

With due respect for Mr Khader Khan for his immense contribution to the Hindi film world in several fields, I’d like to suggest the following amendments to the article:

There is nothing like “master’s diploma in engineering (MIE) given by the Institution of Engineers. MIE stands for Member of Institute of Engineers. Mr Khader Khan did his diploma in civil engineering and was teaching as an instructor at M H Saboo Siddik Technical High School, Byculla. In 1975, the institution where he worked was only a technical high school. Due verification may be done at the institution.

No “professor” works in a high school. He was never a professor. It is surprising if he got a membership of Institution of Engineers for working as an instructor from 1970-75.

Date of birth[edit]

I'm disappointed that this article had to go to an edit war and a block without any discussion here.

I see the date of birth has been cited to IMDB and a YouTube link. However, the biographies of living people policy say that information about living people must be cited to high-quality sources. People lie about their age all the time (I have several high quality sources that say Keith Moon was born in 1947; he wasn't) and hence IMDB is not generally accepted as a suitable source. I have had a look online for book sources, and can find his year of birth listed as 1937 in the Encyclopedia of Bollywood–Film Actors but there's not a date. Could somebody with more time and patience than me go through the YouTube interview supplied and see where the date of birth is supplied? If it's not in there, then I would say per the BLP policy we will need to trim the date back to "1937" until a better source can be unearthed. @Titodutta:, @Sitush: - can you help? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:36, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since you are trolling through my edits now, I suppose you didn't bother to look at WP:CITEIMDB? seicer | talk | contribs 12:30, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per BLP policy I have removed the contentious date of birth until the information can be verified through the use of reliable sources. Per long-standing consensus IMDB does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for biographies (see Wikipedia:Citing IMDb, Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites, WP:RS/IMDB, and multiple discussions at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard). In addition, there is no indication that the full date of birth is confirmed through the youtube link. In order for any date to be restored it must be supported by a high-quality source and if that source is disputed there needs to be consensus to include it.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:01, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps these recent sources can at least support an approximate year?
Dl2000 (talk) 03:09, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! I've added the first source along with the corresponding auto-calculation template.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:30, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality is wrong[edit]

I fail to see how he is Indian if he was born in Afghanistan? Technically that would make him Afghan and and an afghan actor working in Bollywood films, not Indian. I think a correction or at least a poll should be taken here to dispute this. 174.114.86.200 (talk) 01:25, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Language Variant Change from Canadian English to Indian English?[edit]

Since user IP 220.240.52.166 has requested to change the language variant of the article by editing it to comply with Indian English Standards, I would like to set up a proposal for all of you to consider whether it will be a good idea or not to convert this page's language variant into Indian English or keep it as Canadian English. Discuss below. DSCrowned(talk) 12:10, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dual Citizenship[edit]

Indian constitution does not allow dual citizenship and in this article It is mentioned that Kader Khan is having dual citizenship (Indian / Canadian). We should remove one of them. Shachiindra (talk) 07:47, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is a reliable source for the Canadian citizenship. Regardless of whether the Indian constitution recognizes the Canadian citizenship, if he holds it then it should be included in the article.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 16:58, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced tag[edit]

Hi User:Sherenk1 I saw that you have added the Unreferenced tag. May I know the reason ? since I do not see any [citation needed] tags in the article body. I would like to fix the problem if any and get the tag removed since the page is getting huge traffic and is also nominated for Wikipedia:In_the_news. cheers. --DBigXray 07:55, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:Sherenk1 thanks for the kind reply, I understand the concern. I completely agree that the filmography can be forked off, so I have created a Kader Khan filmography article. --DBigXray 19:31, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And also did some major work in improving the references in the article. The Cn tags are now only in 1 section so I have moved the tag to that section. --DBigXray 20:58, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done added sourced content and references wherever missing. hope the ITN is good to go now.--DBigXray 21:59, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

His Birthdate?[edit]

I have looked through a lot of details and its apparent that this actor was not born on December 11th or November 14th or November 12th but infact October 22, 1935. Wikipedia got the day and month right but they got the year wrong. This is the closest source we have (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wVxdr5oHp8), around 2:16, they say his its "ahtartua) which means 80th birthday as this video was taken on October 23rd 2015 but another source from there claimed (https://twitter.com/htcity/status/657449226285228032) his birthday was on Thursday (which was oct 22) thus meaning Mr Khan died at the age of 83, not 81.--27.123.153.117 (talk) 00:54, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Engineering Degree[edit]

He enrolled in a local municipal school and later in the Ismail Yusuf College[1] after which he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (AMIE) from the Institution of Engineers (India) specializing in Civil engineering and later on his membership grade was upgraded to MIE (Member of Institution of Engineers). Between 1970 and 1975, he taught at M. H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Byculla as a professor of civil engineering.[1][2]

References

The above content has been moved to talk page by me, since this needs sources, as of now the rediff interview only says that he graduated in engineering, rest is unsourced, so if someone wants to add this, they should add only after adding reliable sources for this information. --DBigXray 06:53, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

@Gotitbro: Have a look at this. Is it correct to mention Indian-Canadian, I mean do we have sources supporting the 'Canadian' part? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:37, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Fylindfotberserk: I had looked at the sources when it was first added here, it traces back to a Times of India article, sometime around his death, who also make no verification of the fact and themselves list this as reportedly/apparently. And there has been no verification of the fact since.
It rests fine down in the body (as "reportedly") and we need not populate the leads, cats etc. unless there is confirmation from the family etc., which I doubt there is going to be; he was apparently living with his elder son in Canada (the rest of his family being in India) when he died there, it is not uncommon for ageing parents to move in so but they hardly end up taking citizenship (e.g. Wajahat Mirza who had been living with his daughter during the last years of his life).
I had removed it back then on this basis and we need stay put unless new sources are brought to light. Gotitbro (talk) 04:22, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gotitbro: Even people having Canadian PR are not citizens of the country but of the country the subjects migrated from [4]. In case of Kader Khan we are not even sure he had a Canadian PR, let alone citizenship. I believe we should remove the 'Canadian' part per WP:NATIONALITY. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:59, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I have done that per WP:STABLE, the addition of "Canadian" was only done recently in a drive-by lead fix. Gotitbro (talk) 09:05, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And pinging Rogerjamesdsouza, to let know that these additions are unverifiable and should not be repeatedly inserted. Gotitbro (talk) 09:09, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gotitbro: Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:18, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gotitbro: There are a lot of 'XYZ Canada/Canadian XYZ' categories, seem excessive considering that he was an Indian citizen, should be trimmed/removed? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: Don't see a reason for them to be there, was neither extensively associated with that country nor had any confirmed citizenship as such. Gotitbro (talk) 10:44, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gotitbro: Please do the needful changes. I'm not that much accustomed to 'categories'. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:50, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
