  • "Pneumonia brings KWVR's Perkins to unprecedented silence". Wallowa County Chieftain. March 6, 2008. Long time radio play-by-play veteran and KWVR owner Lee Perkins was forced to miss a game for the first time in his 24 years behind the microphone. Perkins, 75, had come down with pneumonia, and minutes after sitting silent through the high school girls' basketball semifinal in Baker City between Joseph and Lowell, he was taken to a hospital in La Grande. Rusty Eschler of Joseph filled in for Perkins at the semifinal.
