Arkansas Cowgirls/Cow Girls: extra citation needed[edit]

The footnote to Reference 5 says Virgil Freemont Stewart and the Arkansas Cowgirls performed this song originally.

It cites two websites, Venerable Music and Roots & Rhythm. Neither site mentions a performance of "Just Out Of Reach" by The Arkansas Cowgirls (or Cow Girls). Site searches show that neither site even mentions The Arkansas Cow Girls/Cowgirls on any page. An archived page from Venerable Music [link] mentions merely that "the only known picture is of Virgil Freemont “Pappy” Stewart with his Arkansas Cowgirls, an earlier band" which doesn't say anything about the history of the song.

The Stewart Family did appear as Pappy Stewart and His Arkansas Cow Girls: I found one example from local press in 1945, and the photo of them using the name is easily found online.

They may well have performed "Just Out Of Reach" under this name before their 1951 Stewart Family record, but it needs a citation. So far I haven't found any but my resources are not unlimited.

Until then, the 1951 record as The Stewart Family remains the earliest verifiable performance.

I'd really like to see a citation for an Arkansas Cow Girls performance because it would alter the history of the song which I have written about elsewhere.

I will edit the footnote if there are no further comments here.
