22 June - aircraft accident[edit]

I have removed the addition of a non-notable aircraft accident to the 22 June 1972 but it has been re-added. The accident nor any of the participants appear to have a wikipedia article which is normally a sign of notability. And as this is a review of global events on 22 June a tragic but minor small aircraft accident does not appear to get over the inclusion bar even if notability is established. As the addition has been challenged suggest that it be removed again unless we have a consensus to add it, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 07:16, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this event is too parochial to be in this list - the geologists involved are not particularly notable, almost any professional geologist (including me, and I'm really not) would be notable if they are IMO. Mikenorton (talk) 10:06, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, excuse me guys, the pilot of the plane was Henry Birdseye, son of Clarence Birdseye, founder of the frozen foods company. He was also appointed a Regent on the New Mexico school of mines. Additionally, Dr Miller, who was also killed was a regent at the Texas tech school of Mines. What the heck do you consider "Notable people?" Hey, 6 (SIX) men were killed in this plane crash. The idea that you find 6 death to be a total non-event is patently ridiculous and borders on offensive. What is the magic number of people to be killed for an event to be "notable?" Wikipedia is a global project and to be notable events have to be unusual in a global context or involving people who are notable in a global context (see Wikipedia:Notability (academics)) and however tragic this particular event was, I don't think that it merits inclusion here. If you disagree with that, then try creating articles on some of the individuals and/or on the crash itself and see whether the wider community agrees with you.
