The Godfather — a reason for Colombo's assasination/assault?[edit]

The following was placed in the article history by User:149.68.7.92:

I didn't edit anything but, umm, he was assasinated because of his involvement with allowing Paramount to film The Godfather. Amazing that wasn't mentioned.

So I looked around and found out that something to this effect was also implied in the Colombo crime family article:

[...] Colombo set up the Italian-American Civil Rights League to defend Italian Americans from what he saw as prejudice at the hands of the law enforcement authorities. In an organisation that prided itself on keeping a low profile, the publicity Colombo brought on the mafia was decidedly unwelcome - through his involvement with the League, he was frequently to be found, willingly, on television and in the press, where a Mafia boss usually only finds himself when having to defend himself in court.

Emphasis mine. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything to corroborate the claim in question. An expert is needed. --jibun≈παντα ρει≈ (keskustele!) 01:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The assertion made above can be found in the documentary, "The Godfather and the Mob" (2006) At the same time that the crew of the Godfather was filming a scene in the movie where a mobster is shot in a revolving door, four blocks away, Joe Colombo is assassinated by suspected rival mob leader(s). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.143.102.148 (talk) 00:57, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No sources[edit]

There's no citation to his birth place and this article seems to generally lack sources. TomNyj0127 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:40, 5 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]

I noticed that at Find a Grave his year of birth is given as 1923. This would align more factually with his photographs as he does not look to be in his 60s. There is a book out describing the making of The Godfather movie and Colombo's negotiations with the studio and producers through the League. Sorry that I don't have the book title or author at hand.
