This certainly isn't an encyclopaedic article, it's a sales pitch! —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThunderPeel2001 (talkcontribs) 20:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Eve

Shouldn't we include his involvement in designing the Pixar character "Eve" from the movie "wall-E"? Here is a link: [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.136.32.222 (talk) 14:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Don't you think a picture should be added for such a renowned guy? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr.bombo (talkcontribs) 07:45, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

What, so just in case his million pound salary, CBE and job with Apple designing the coolest tech gear on the market weren't enough we have to look at his impossibly good looks as well? So not fair!--Simonmetcalf (talk) 12:50, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Recognition

I think these news should be covered:

1992-1998?

What did he do at Apple in the 6 years before the iMac? —pfahlstrom 06:02, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I rounded up his design patents between 1992-1998 here: http://theintelligentcrowd.com/kmblog/patents/jonathan-ives-earlier-work/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.7.43.66 (talk) 18:56, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

NPOV?

The first two paragraphs of the article don't seem to be NPOV, in my opinion. It reads like a press-release.--71.144.86.246 02:56, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Newton Messagepad

One of Ive's earlier projects was working on the design of the Newton MessagePad 100 (the original). Mentioned in BusinessWeek Who is Jonathan Ives?: "He designed the first PDA to run Apple's short-lived Newton software." --Bratling 16:20, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Recognition (again)

The CBE he was awarded is mentioned twice in the "Recognition" section. The second time it is mentioned, it says:
"Ive was also listed in the 2006 New Years Honours list, receiving a CBE, for services to the design industry."
Is that also as in:
... as well as the CBE we have already read about?

I think Ive is a dude, but I don't think it twice.
Anyway, you get my drift.

Ive also worked on the iMac G4..

How could anyone forget that it was Ive who came up with the amazing iMac G4 design with the built-in counter-balanced floating screen design? I remember his part in envisioning the design was explicitly mentioned in the announcement video when the product was introduced. It was probably the most interesting design for a computer ever produced.. much more striking than the minimalist iMac G5 (iPod-like) that followed it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matt Carrell (talkcontribs) 06:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC).

Personal involvement

This article makes the perrenial mistake of creditting all the designs to Ive personally, rather than to his team. Apple have never been particularly clear about how much Ive actually does himself, so it's impossible to know either way. I think the article should credit "The team led by Ive" (or whatever) unless there's a reliable source that explicitly says it was him that came up with the idea. I'm going to start on those changes now. --82.45.163.4 14:23, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Apple Press Info quite clearly state he is the leading designer and conceptual mind behind Apple products.81.104.9.110 (talk) 15:01, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
If you check Ive's patents you can quite clearly see he is THE designer, even 200 of the 313 patents of Steve Jobs' name Ive as dual patent holder. More than 200 of the patents attributed to Jobs also list Apple design guru Jonathan Ive, indicating the close collaboration between the two in creating the vision for Apple's products.Twobells (talk) 10:49, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

MacBook?

Talk:Jony Ive is not a forum.

Er, everyone knows Sony designed the MacBook after Apple proved they can't design a decent toilet seat - sorry, laptop - themselves, so why is Ive and his team credited with it? -- 86.17.211.191 00:32, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Because no one knows what you're talking about. (Sony did design Apple's first (sub)notebook, the PowerBook 100, sold in 1991...) — RVJ (talk) 22:39, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Revolutionary?

The G3 was hardly revolutionary, despite what Apple marketing may think. The transistor was revolutionary, putting the computer in the same case as the screen isn't.

There's clearly bias in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kestasjk (talkcontribs) 12:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Agreed. This article is just a little too positive and reads more like a fan page than an encyclopaedic entry.--Simonmetcalf (talk) 12:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
For that matter, most of the comments on this Talk page make me want to gag. You'd think this guy was Raymond Loewy reborn... As nearly as I can tell, Apple products are designed to look maimed the first time they get a scratch, encouraging continuous "upgrading" by folks attracted to that sleek starkness that goes to hell the first time it's knocked over or dropped. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.3.249 (talk) 15:49, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
I bet you morons one day ago still believed Steve Jerk Jobs did all the design of Apple products, and now are angry to discover Ive is behind everything. Idiot fanboys! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.17.116.121 (talk) 20:15, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Design motifs

While I think that the section on design motifs is well written and informative, does it really belong in an article on Ive? Ianbetteridge (talk) 21:44, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

No, this article can be renamed to Apple design motifs. Personal information on Ive should be moved out to a separate article. Jay (talk) 13:16, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
The article has transformed a lot now. It can retain as a biography, only the technical section need to be moved out. Jay (talk) 02:51, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
I believe the design motifs should be in a new article as Jay suggests, adding a link in the Ive biographical article. Although Ive is Vice President of Industrial Design, this info is more relevant in a new article about the whole evolution of design at Apple. Plus I think there is enough info available for making a whole article about it, or at least adding it to the Apple Industrial Design Group article. --Lithium2177 (talk) 02:36, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

The Guardian article states that he lives in Twin Peaks. If correct, this is in San Francisco, not "near" San Francisco. Anyone who can confirm this? Gglockner (talk) 17:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
