Someone with a copy of John Boessenecke's books on Old California (Badge and Buckshot and Golddust and Gunsmoke) might want to add to this. I've seen some online stuff that has been taken from one of those books, but can't confirm which one without copies. The quoted (or "borrowed") stuff has much more detail and would help flesh this stub out in terms of notability.Intothatdarkness (talk) 16:34, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

From the The Shasta courier., January 06, 1855 [1] ″The Rocky Canon Tragedy, ′as we predicted,′ (only we did'nt, but like many others were grievously sold and likewise take-ed in,) turns out to be an unmitigated humbug. Capt. Jonathan Davis did'nt slaughter eleven fierce brigands, nor has his hat been rendered ′shocking bad′ by being pierced with seventeen balls. ′Lord, Lord, how this world's given to lying.′″' (Spellings theirs.)
