Burke, Sir Bernard (1884). The General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Comprising a registry of Armorial Bearing from the earliest to the present time. London: Harrison. p. 1143. says:

"Wylde (Droitwich, co. Worcester ; arms from the monument of Ann Wylde, wife of John Wylde, Esq., of Droitwich, and dau. of Sir Tho.mas Harris, Knt., of Tong Castle, Serjeant-at-law, d. 1624, in Tong Church, co. Salop). Ar. on a chief sa. three martlets of the first, quartering, for Harris, Barry of eight erm. and az. three annulets or.2

supports the use of John Wylde but it does not support the claim that he was "better known" as John Wylde. This is a surprising claim because the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has abandoned this usage which was included in the Dictionary of National Biography

ODNB (2004) starts "Wilde, John (1590–1669), barrister and politician, was the son and heir of George Wilde of Kempsey, Worcestershire, serjeant-at-law, JP, and MP for Droitwich ..."
DNB (1900) starts "Wilde or Wylde, John (1590–1669), chief baron of the exchequer, was the son and heir of George Wylde of Kempsey, Worcestershire, serjeant-at-law, who represented Droitwich in parliament ..."

Eddaido if you want to state that Wylde is "better known" than Wilde you need a very good source that specifically says that because an authoritative source like the ODNB contradicts that statement. --PBS (talk) 12:35, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
