Proposed merge with Marianna Russell

close as no consensus to merge Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:44, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Being the spouse of a notable person does not indicate notability (as per WP:INVALIDBIO). Its best to merge it to the husband's article. Yashovardhan (talk) 10:12, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Mildly, the assertion of notability is not that she was Russell's wife; it's that she was a prominent model. Looks like this is presently inadequately sourced, but that's what the article needs to demonstrate to remain in place. -- Euryalus (talk) 10:22, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the late responseEuryalus. I partly agree with you. But the article presently isn't notable enough. This merger would just buy some time for anyone interested to improve the article. Till then, at least we won't have another almost unsourced biography. What's your view on the merger?

Marianna Russell is a great character as a model in painting and sculpture. Because of her beauty, she posed for painters as Carolus-Duran, Eugène Carrière and her husband John Peter Russell. She posed for sculptors : Harry Bates, Emmanuel Frémiet and mainly for Auguste Rodin who made seven differents busts with her. The following link specifies one of them :

http://www.musee-rodin.fr/fr/collections/sculptures/mrs-russell

She had a correspondence with Rodin. Letters are kept by Musée Rodin in Paris and were published in 1986 (Editions du Musée Rodin) with others correspondents of the famous artist. Archibald Hartrick wrote in 1939 in his Painter's pilgrimage that Marianna was afraid by the grimaces of Vincent Van Gogh, a friend of John and Marianna, when this one came at their studio in Paris. She has a specific notoriousness independantly of his husband and a page Marianna Russell is justified.Axifrages —Preceding undated comment added 16:45, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

@Axifrages: while I agree that she's notable in itself, I'd suggest using these sources to improve the article there itself. The present state does very little to assert her notability except for the fact that she's his wife. The merger will only buy some time while leaving the possibility of future improvements open. At least, It's better than deletion. What do you say? Yashovardhan (talk) 18:22, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Oppose merge; support improvement. Notability depends not on what is in the article (WP:ARTN), but what known sources support. If we argue, from this talk page, that Marianna Russell is independently notable then the page should be improved rather than merged. Klbrain (talk) 18:02, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
Oppose per K1brain. She was a major model for major artists, and lived an interesting life with accomplishments outside of her association with artists. And once more articles are done on Russell's paintings, she would be an item for his template. Randy Kryn (talk) 18:10, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
