Mutual influence on Monty[edit]

Might be worth noting that he was one of the fast-track students at the Indian Staff College in 1936-7, being instructed by Monty, who feared he would be too old for the forthcoming war, and put his heart and soul into teaching these young high-flyers.

Harding and his colleagues were the ones who defended Monty's reputation in 1939-40 when a lot of top brass wanted him out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.244.180 (talk) 00:03, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

King's College London?[edit]

It seemed odd that he had time to attend KCL, when he left school at 15 and joined the army at 18. This is cited to the DNB (but the claim predates the citation). I have tried to verify this information, but all the indications are that it is incorrect. There is no mention of KCL in another publisher biography I found [1]. He is not included in the list of matriculated students of the University of London who served in WWI [2], which he should have been if he had joined KCL before giving into the army. KCL do not list him as one of their notable alumni [3], which given that they claim famous people who attended evening classes at the college on that page would really be expected. Could somebody with a British library subscription check what the DNB actually says? Robminchin (talk) 05:11, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Heathcote does not mention KCL either: it seems unlikely and I have removed it. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 10:01, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
