Departure reason[edit]

At the time of his departure from the R.E.M. team, the press reported that it was due to a sexual harassment allegation, e.g., http://www.nytimes.com/1996/09/11/arts/for-rem-adventures-on-the-run.html . The Wikipedia article makes the reason for his departure sound mysterious and unknown. If there is significant press coverage, should we not note that just because the parties involved agreed to say nothing? Calbaer (talk) 05:42, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Calbaer: It's not like we have to abide by the terms of their legal agreement but there are higher standards for biographies of living persons, particularly in cases like this about possible allegations of illegal conduct. This article should reference those source (and there are many) but should not imply that they are accurate because we simply don't know (verifiability, not truth). —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:05, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mention in the song "Can't Get There From Here"[edit]

"Lawyer Jeff" is not Jefferson Holt. It is Jeff Gilley, at the time an attorney working in Athens, GA who worked with many bands including R.E.M. and the Chickasaw Mudd Puppies. He is no longer practicing law https://law.justia.com/cases/georgia/supreme-court/2010/s10y1473.html . I know this for a fact as it came directly from Bertis Downs IV, manager of R.E.M. There is no reference that I know if to cite, but it is inappropriate for this page to continue to cite this erroneously. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Threecardhighlow (talkcontribs) 18:08, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Threecardhighlow: Thanks a lot for posting. I removed this already since the citation that was provided wasn't a reliable source. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 18:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
