A Hawk And A Hacksaw

Jeff is currently touring with the folk outfit, A HAWK AND A HACKSAW. Is there a source for this? Searching online I can only find mention that he contributed to their album, not that he's joined them on tour. --Starwed 06:50, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

If there's no source I'm removing it; especially since "currently" might be untrue now even if it wasn't then (it was added around October.) ^_^ --Starwed 21:25, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Discography

If anyone wants to update the discography, you can get more info here. If no one does it soon, I pporbably will. --liam 17:38, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Merging with Neutral Milk Hotel page

Both articles are kind of a mess and it seems info fromt his apge should be on the ohter page and vice versa. Anyone have an ideas on what we should do? Ridernyc 18:09, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

No, I think that would be a bad idea. He had a band before NMH, and he has been active musically since NMH. A merger would only further muddy the waters. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 18:41, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

redirect

i noticed that searching for "jeff magnum" redirects you to this page. that is a common misspelling of mangum's name, but it's also the name of the bass player of the Dead Boys. i think there should be a disambiguation page, but i don't know what the format should be since it's not just two people with the same name, it's a person whose name is a commin misspelling of another person's. anyway, if anyone could help me out with this i'd appreciate it. Sokeripupu 19:09, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I would probably just go with the disambiguation...seems the best way. If anyone disagrees, they can call you out on it later/fix it themselves, because I do think it's probably best to have people know the difference of spelling and people. Codejkoolguy 04:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
No, we need to put at the top of the Jeff Magnum page warning against confusion of the two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.164.135 (talk) 03:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Death?

Can anyone confirm that Jeff Mangum is dead? as of 2007-10-19 revision of this page? Can Find nothing on E6 official Forum. http://e6townhall.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8

He is most definately not dead as he appeared on stage just a few days ago JuPitEer 00:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Justification of removal

I have removed two reasonably sized paragraphs from the article, detailing the appearances Jeff Mangum has made since Neutral Milk Hotel. These two paragraphs were little more than a tab of Mangum's where-abouts. Since this is not a gossip or tabloid magazine, we should probably only document a substantial return to music performance or recording, which those appearances are not. Thoughts? Djk3 (talk) 22:31, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. People seem to treat Mangum as some sort of missing person whose very miniscule appearance in any whereabout is of great significance. Guest performing at a number of live shows is not of that kind of significance at all. —Vanishdoom (talk) 09:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

With Neutral Milk Hotel

Reads like it was copied and pasted right out of Pitchfork media reviews. More NPOV, less favorable reviews from website. 72.73.66.25 (talk) 15:35, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Less favorable? It would pretty difficult to find reviews that aren't extremely favorable.
Occasionally, there's a subject where you do a google search and the first 25 results/reviews that come up all praise the subject extensively. There's no reason why the Wikipedia article shouldn't reflect this. --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 15:55, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Birth name

I don't think Jeff's birth name is Jefferson, and there is no citation for this. I propose removal. --N-k (talk) 18:18, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Since this is a biography of a living person, and there is no citation for Jeff's birth name, I am removing it. I know that his birth name is something else, but I don't have a citation, so I won't be adding anything. --N-k (talk) 05:13, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Is Jeff Jewish?

I've heard that he IS Jewish and there's nothing wrong with that... Or is it only a rumour just because he wrote a loose concept album based on Anne Frank (And for those not in the know... She was Jewish) So have I just read wrong or is Jeff, Jewish or Not? Can someone please answer? Shalom. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.186.204.25 (talk) 04:38, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Instruments

A fender CP-100 and a Martin 000-15 have been removed from the instruments list even though in the article's featured picture you can see him playing the Martin, and in this video I linked in the edit summary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo7jVuyDYW0 you can see him playing the Fender. I will add them back but if you remove them I want a response on this talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.100.95.107 (talk) 18:09, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

That you looked at the picture and determined it was a certain kind of guitar constitutes original research (which WP does not do). If you want the instruments included by name in the article (and if it's important enough to include), please cite a reliable, secondary, independent source. czar  18:42, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

What's he doing now?

Anyone know what Jeff Mangum is doing these days? --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 14:14, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Mangum's birthday

I'm not positive the birthday listed is correct (though I hope sincerely it is. It's the same as mine.). While august 10 is the date I found when I googled it, I only found it once, in a less than reliable source. Then I saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9KgtoA6CeM which suggests its october 23. Inputs? Lewzer99 (talk) 21:45, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Old comment, but I'll go ahead and change his birthdate to October 23rd. Basically Mangum made a rare appearance an e6 show. After playing two songs, Robert Schneider announced that it was Mangum's birthday and the crowd sang happy birthday. There is a blog discussing the show prior to the show agreeing with the video source's date. The blog: https://backseatsandbar.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/jeff-mangum-in-the-bluegrass/

Here is another site reporting on the show. http://www.youaintnopicasso.com/2008/10/24/jeff-mangum-engine-happy-birthday-sing-along/ I think the article leaves the date ambiguous, but it does have a post date, which realistically would be posted the following day. Though I have found a potential editor for the October 24th date. http://e6townhall.com/showthread.php?14596-Happy-Birthday-Jeff-Mangum!/page2 The editor uses that source for the date, even though it's unclear, opposed to other, clearer sources. Therefore, I think the current date may have unsubstantial evidence.
